The Indian Tandoori restaurant in Wangaratta was really quite a pleasant surprise.
My wife, daughter and I were in the mood for Indian food and when we saw there was an Indian restaurant across the road from our hotel we decided to try it.
The entrance is quite tacky and we almost walked away when we saw old plastic furniture strewn all over the front yard of this house turned restaurant.
We decided to open the front door and were welcomed by quite an atmospheric restaurant. The lighting was ambient, it was traditionally decorated with a warm fireplace burning in the corner.
The wonderful smell of aromatic spices welcomed us and we decided to stay for dinner.
We ordered the Mughlai Lamb, the Chicken Dehawani and the Saag Paneer as well as a chicken tikka dish for our young daughter.
The dishes were amazing. Extremely flavorful and well presented. What struck me was the quality of the ingredients. The lamb was lean and not the typical jelly like substance often eaten in restaurants. The lamb was also perfectly cooked, succulent. The chicken was not fatty or grissly and leaked flavor. The Saag Paneer had perfect amounts of cottage cheese in it (homeade)
The Indian spiced tea is a must try as is the chocolate naan.
Overall a great meal and wonderful surprise
