“Good service? Im not sure”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

There is a fine line between good service and being too pushy.

Went here with friends and was constantly badgered by the waitress. It felt as though we weren't welcome to just sit and enjoy ourselves having a wine and a bit of tapas, she kept on coming back again and again asking if we wanted anything more. We were trying to catch up on what we had all been doing and had to keep on breaking off to answer the staff member. I felt it wasnt a place to relax in. Couldnt fault the food, but its too expensive for tapas.

Thanks for your review.
It appears from your past reviews that you prefer the comfort, surrounds and service from pub environments. That's great, so do I and one of the reasons I love Arrowtown, great Pubs.

When building La Rumbla, we wanted to create a point of difference, something which every successful business needs.
With regards to your comment. " I could't fault the food". This suggests to me that you came in with an ambition to try and find faults. A syndrome commonly known as 'Tall poppy'.
I'm sorry that you found your waitress to be overly attentive, however customer service is our number one priority. In this instance it appears that your time in La Rumbla was not the best option for you. May I suggest that in future, you find less professional establishments that provide you with the normal level of service that caters to you dining requirements.

Cheers
Sam

“Brava La Rumbla”

Brilliant for a group! Order a variety of tapas, a few glasses of good wine, sit back and enjoy! Attentive staff and a modern buzzy ambience. Great fun.

“La Rumbla for service, style and sassy food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Lucky Arrowtown! It's got La Rumbla, new, clever, fun and not to be missed for carefully sourced and beautifully cooked small plates such as grilled baby squid, pork and chipotle quesadilla, salted blue cod and baked lamb loin chops. Need something for the kids? The "Havoc Ham and truffled cheese bocadillos" are baby ham 'n cheese toasted sammies, and they'll love the meatballs and potato bravas with hot tomato sauce. Great wines, including delicious Europeans as well as NZ and Australian, gorgeous cocktails. The staff as super, highly-trained, cheerful, intelligent and efficient. Completing the package, cool music, funky decor and what we all love, great value for money...six adults ate 'n drank very nicely for just under $400 on a busy Friday night... wish there was a La Rumbla in Auckland...

“Hidden Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Dropped in for lunch with the wife and kids. Food was outstanding. Service was excellent, knowledgable and attentive. We opted for beer but the wine list was very good. Will go for wine next time. No kids menu but there was plenty on the regular menu that the kids can have so we got a few dishes and shared. Loved the patatas bravas, bocadillo(fancy ham & cheese toastie), quesadilla and meatballs. Very tasty. Very fresh. The hint of truffle in the bocadillo was a nice touch. The complimentary bread was lovely; scented with garlic and rosemary. We were tempted by the dessert menu and had the chocolate terrine with creme de cafe (stunning) and the Catalan meringue with raspberry and creme chantilly. Again, the subtle flavours made this something special (lime zest in the raspberry compote?)
Should there be a kids menu? I don't know really. The kids always eat what we have at home so they were more than happy sharing with us. I quite like not having a kids menu as they are usually terrible anyway. Initially I viewed this as a slight negative but I have changed my mind.
Overall, very hard to fault. Maybe a couple more decorations on a couple of walls but now I'm being picky. One of the top 3 meals I have had in the region and all for less than $90 for 6 dishes and 4 drinks. Great value. We will definitely be back
