“Lovely position, great facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

We stayed overnight here in a campervan, returning for our second time around. Generally a quiet park, with very clean, modern facilities. Nicely appointed bathrooms and common areas, there was a heated floor in the showers first time we stayed, which sadly wasn't in operation second time (was on in May, not on in September- figure it is prohibitively expensive, and there really weren't many other travellers when we stayed in Sept). Didn't really interact with the staff at all - just on arrival. Arrowtown is a fantastic place to stay though - beautiful old mining village with cobble-stone streets, great shops and cafes and the old museum and walking tracks. The campground is close enough to easily walk into town - about 1km, if that. Prices were average for an 'on the beaten track' sort of campground.

We have always used Top10 Holiday parks around New Zealand over the years. This time we thought we would try out something else and Arrowtown Born of Gold looked like a good idea. But sadly this was nowhere near the standard expected of Holiday Parks in New Zealand. The frontdesk personnel were very cold and unfriendly. We stayed for 4 nights and the rooms were never cleaned ( Only towels were swapped ). The most basic flat at an exhorbitant rate. The TV in the room was ridiculous ( the management still think it is the 90's ). The showers would flood everytime someone showers. We would definitely not recommend this to anyone.

This is out second time to stay at this park. The reason why we came back the second time was firstly because it is located close to a nice pub where we like to go and secondly because we hoped that it would have improved since our last stay in 2011. Unfortunately not.

The service is good. There is no complaints about the human element of our stay. But to the management..... Seriously, if you want to charge $140 a night for a tourist flat improve what you have so that it a little more than just a "shed" as one reviewer has put it. It is most certainly the most basic tourist flat we stayed in again on this 16 day trip around the South Island. 30cm box tv's went out in the 90's. Smallest TV I have seen in a motel/hotel.... EVER! As another guest put it "unless you have the shower angled in the right direction the whole bathroom floods" and it is very uncomfortable walking through cold water to the toilet during the night! The second time we stay and he second time we have found other guests belonging left under the bed- other than that it is clean. Spend a few dollars and buy a few wines glasses and make guests happy. I really feel that this place can improve with just a little money spent. It just annoys me when I see such potential being ignored for the sake of a few dollars. I hope to see some changes before the next time we visit time or Queenstown will get out business.

Arrowtown Born of Gold is the cleanest and most modern park we have visited. It is close to the town center and Arrow river. The bathrooms have heated flooring and overhead heaters, they are kept to an exceptional standard. The kitchen facilities are good, however there is no lounge area to relax in. We would stay here again.

I road tripped around the South Island and this campground was easily the worst! I had to pay for a timed shower, but then the water didn't even heat up! It got lukewarm at best, this is in the middle of winter too! My friend had the same experience the next morning. There is also no lounge. Every where you go you are greeted by big "CAMP RULES" signs and reminded you are on video surveillance. I didn't feel like a guest at all. Don't stay here if you can avoid it!

We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin. Nice location and grounds. The shower was good but flooded the floor unless it angled exactly right. We found the bed lacking in blankets and the man at the office seemed to think I was the weird one to need a quilt for the bed. I figure if places are serious about energy saving (as the stickers in the cabin indicate they are) it would be more energy efficient to not use the heaters at night and have enough blankets on the bed. The tv won the prize for being the smallest one on our travels and wait .. no wine glasses in the cabin?? The young staff person at the check desk was very friendly and accommodating. Location in Arrowtown was great .. easy distance to walk in for a meal.

Clean and comfortable room and very warm. Great location and must have one of the few surviving 14" TV s in the country. .....but I'm keen to go back. Our room had an en-suite wet floor with great water pressure.
