“A favourite place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

this billabong is one of our favourite places to visit in Kakadu. if you like bird-sighting you will enjoy the variety of birds you see there - we love seeing the pelicans. We enjoy a picnic when we go there unless it's just too hot.

If birds are not your thing it's worth a quick drive in to get a photo of the billabong with Nourlangie as the backdrop.

The road in is blocked off during the wet season.

Do take the croc warning signs seriously!!

Good advice! Our fascinating crocs are a very real part of the Kakadu landscape and signs should be heeded at all times. Regards, Tanya

“A wetlands wonderland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

There is an abundance of photo opportunities here, especially during sunset, with the reflections of Nourlangie rock in the background and the birdlife that gathers in the afternoon.
There are also plenty of picnic and parking spots along the way on the left.
A great picturesque, lily-filled billabong, which has water most of the year around.

“A beautiful walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

If you have even the slightest interest in birds you should go here. There are hundreds of them here. When we went there were a flock of pelicans. They were kicking up a racket. The evening is specially a nice time to visit since the sun is not blazing down on you and also most of the birds are there to roost. There are picnic tables around the billabong if you want to sit and have a quiet lunch.

“Lovely walk, lots of birds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Do take this peaceful walk around the billabong. Use bug spray for the flies, though. Then 3/4s of the way around take the Nawurlandja cutoff and climb to the top for views. Lots of wildlife here and no crowds.

“Bird Life terrific in August”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We have had 2 visits to this beautiful Billabong in mid August and found an excellent array of Bird life and wild flowers.
The walk around the Billabong can be done in around 1 hour. It is easy walking and well marked.
I suspect August is the right time as I note from others that they were less impressed.
We saw wild pig, pelicans, Kangaroos, wild flowers and a myriad of birds.
Easy to drive to (tarred road) picnic spots with tables and seats set up. A great place to visit.
TIP: If you don't want to walk right around, walk from the car park to the other end and back. It takes about two thirds of the time and you do not miss anything.
TIP: Early morning is worth the effort.
