“This is a "Must Do" for every tourist”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

Here is an incredible scenic attraction right under my nose. In all the time I have lived in NZ I had not been to the Gannet Colony and finally did the tour in November 2011. We went with Gannet Safaris, a bus trip which leave from a nearby location and travels onto privately owned property ( Cape Kidnappers) to reach the colony. There is an alternative trip via tractor and trailer which follows the tideline along the coast and then travellers have to climb up the hillside to see the gannets. With the bus tour you step off the bus in a flat paddock about a metre from the colony. It is amazing. The birds in the thousands wheel and dive all round you. The chicks can been seen in nests and the sights looking out to sea with the sharp rock pinnacles and the vast grassed paddocks is extraordinary.
Every tourist ( and local) should go there.

“Trip to the Gannets”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

Its is a pleasant way to get to the cape Kidnappers which is a fantastic colony of Gannets. The trip out to the cape lets you see some fantastic geology as the strata are open to sight. The effects of deposition and faulting and tiliting are awesomely displayed in the cliffs which you are taken past.

Take a hat, sunblock and a wind breaker jacket( and food and drink)

If you are fit think about walking out - its about 16 km return.

“Gannet Safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2011

Excellent guide/driver - so knowledgable. Taken by jeep across private land to the colony. Given lots of interesting information en route about the location and New Zealand in general. Gannets were fascinating. Hot drink and a cookie provided - excellent value for money all round. Highly recommend the experience.
