“Beautiful views and interesting history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

Standing on Flagstaff Hill looking down at Russell, you could understand why this hill was so important and imagine what it may have been like in 1845.

“Saw a kiwi !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

Our first day off the cruise ship which was anchored in the harbor. First thing we did was take the long uphill walk through the beautiful neighborhood to Flagstaff Hill. We saw a kiwi on the path and got a few photos of it. It was a great view and we read some of the history of the place.

“good views up here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

No trip to Russell would be complete without a visit up Flagstaff Hill, as all the other reviews say its a great view u there with some history of the area and the hill itself, try to go on a nice sunny day so you can see the vivid blue colors of the ocean and bays, etc

“Flagstaff hill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

We stayed at Paihia and drove around to Opua to catch the car ferry across to Russell to do our own thing. Russell is a small quaint town with lots to see. We drove up to flagstaff hill for what was a big surprise, 360 degree views and a history lesson on the plaque. The day saw a cruise ship visiting the bay of islands with the passenger's being ferried across to Paihia. Great views of Paihia. $22 return on the car ferry.
