“Great Place Great People”

A fab place in a superb country with great hosts, looking after you.

This place has it all: friendly confident but discreet hosts who advise you if you want and leave on your own. They seem to know what people need - they read them well.

The house embraces you like your favourite comfortable chair at home. The decor is second to none, the rooms clean, neat and tidy.

The view has the 'Wow' factor; we sat there overlooking the blue ocean with Jonhnny & Woodi supplying us with excellent and tasty pre-dinner snippets and NZ wine.

The nearby restaurants spoil you for choice and the one we went to was of the highest standard - nicely complimenting Johnny & Woodi's food.

This is a place that reflects the very best of the great country of New Zealand: stunning, beautiful and Wow I'm in heaven - I hope we return soon to the land of the long white cloud: sunshine, contentment, fine wine food & company - this place and NZ have it all.

Pete & Chrissy R.

A gorgeous room with amazing view, superb, congenial hosts....Woodi and Johnny have created an atmosphere that is relaxed and welcoming and FUN! I was travelling alone, and had the pleasure of their company dining at a wonderful local restaurant. I hope to return to beautiful New Zealand, and wouldn't miss another stay at Wakefield Quay House.

We stayed with Woodi and Johnny after our 5 day Queen Charlotte Sound Walk over Easter this year. It was a great place to stay, fantastic hosts, superb riesling! and great breakfasts. We wouldn't hesitate to head back there from Sydney if we are in that part of NZ again. Thanks.

to the View, the room, the hosts...We had 3 wonderful nights in the Crows Nest room. To lie on the bed -very comfortable- and overlook (almost touch) the harbour is magic! Can't believe its so close to town. Fluffy towels & local products in the bathroom, Take a look at some of the interesting books and magazines they have. WW2 Binoculars for guests are so precise
Wednesday nights (our last night there), Nelson have their yachts racing, a spectacular sight from the deck, That night we stayed in, combined our chocolates and wine, with the complimentary nibbles - and enjoyed many stories. -great wineries and shopping close by, Woodi has the maps!
Wakefield Quay House has a great feel to it, simple things that make it a home away from home. PS it does have a staircase.
Amazing cooked breakfasts, (loved the jam pots) A must: scrambled eggs. With your late afternoon drinks Woodi whips up the best and freshest nibbles in a flash.
Johnny and Woodi's love and knowledge of Nelson were invaluable. From the greeting to the farewell...wow

A B&B we will never forget, and for all the right reasons!
It was my birthday and we booked a 1 night stay at Wakefield Quay House in beautiful Nelson on the bay in the South Island of NZ.
Woodi (our hostess) e-mailed and warned us of an event happening next door that might be a bit disruptive.
The house was being sawn in two, lifted off its foundations, picked up by crane and lifted across the seaside highway and moved by semi-trailer to another location.
At night, from 9.00pm. till 2.00am!!
But she also offered some alternatives.
She could move us to her friends' B & B nearby, or she could offer earplugs, a few glasses of red wine, and a discount.
We were delighted to take the latter option.
And what a night it was! After drinks and exquisitely fresh tuna sashimi, a glass of NZ sauvignon blanc on the terrace overlooking the calm sunset over Nelson Bay, we were treated to a delicious tapas feast. Then it turned into a party .... the guests included delightful friends and neighbours, some local TV celebrities, a couple of famous former English Test cricketers, plus a couple of amazingly groomed canines.
The house next door was quietly and efficiently moved, in two halves, all with minimum fuss and and maximum entertainment value.
Our room was very comfortable, the bathroom has the best view of any I have experienced, and our breakfast the next morning was truly delicious.
An experience we shall not forget!

Have returned from a month long stay in New Zealand today. It is a fabulous holiday destination with superb B&Bs - forget chain hotels.
Wakefield Quay House was a wonderful experience. We've travelled extensively but have never before sat together on a bench seat in a bathroom looking out over a beautiful harbour.
Woodi and Johnny are superb hosts and nothing seems to be too much trouble. The breakfast is magificent, the best I had in New Zealand. The wine and home made nibbles at 6.30pm are not to be missed.
As I said, nothing is too much trouble. When we arrived at our next destination in Wellington, my wife discovered she had left all her makeup behind. A disaster for any woman. She phoned Woodi to see if there was any chance of being reunited with it somewhere along the line. Woodi had remembered where we were staying in Wellington and had already couriered it, arriving the same day. All part of the service she said.
It is a great place to stay in a beautiful area. i strongly recommend it.

We booked 3 nights at Wakefield Quay and were staying in the Crow's Nest. Woodi gave us a very warm welcome when we arrived and then Johhny brought our cases up to the room. We were overwhelmed at the views we had. The bathroom had a window seat and looked out over the sea. We had the balcony all to ourselves with a WW2 binoculars to look through. The decor throughout their house is beautiful and they provided everything we needed. Use of the washing machine was no problem and we had iron/ironing board in our room.
Woodi and Johnny provided nibbles and wine prior to going out to dinner and was able to get us tables at the best eateries nearby. They are so friendly and generous.
They provided local ingredients for breakfast and they were the most delicious i ever had.
Woodi showed us a copy of the Sunday Times magazine where Wakefield Quay House was featured - also Oz Clarke and Matthew Dukes have stayed there!
Everything about our stay here was fab- i urge you if you are going near Nelson book this wonderful place.
