“Nice Clean Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Having stayed at other hostels/backpackers and seen many of them, this place is really nice. Accents on the Park is clean, well kept and it looks like a hotel. Rooms are a good size, attractive and the same goes for the bathrooms. We stayed in one of the few ensuite rooms in the back and it was nicer than some hotels we've been too. The kitchenette area and television were good, when we ran out of tea we easily got a refill. Staff is polite as well, especially the manager. If you come by car you will pay about 3 dollars to park next door for the night (they give you a pass when you check in). The location is along the square, very nice area and you can walk throughout Nelson to go grocery shopping or get a bite to eat. There is an excellent tourism information center in Nelson proper as well. The ensuite room we had was a good value and was usually very quiet. However, at no fault of the hostel (they have signs telling guests to be considerate after hours) someone woke us up talking on his mobile right outside our room door around 3:00am. There is a computer outside the door for someone to use and it attracts other guests to hang around. My suggestion is they move it away from the ensuite rooms. We still enjoyed our visit very much. There is a very nice cafe in the cellar area, the food quality is excellent and it is a favorite for locals.

Thanks for taking the time to post a review of your stay with us. We appreciate your generous comments about our rooms and facilities. Yes we do try our best to discourage guests from talking on their mobile phones outside guest rooms especially in the evenings and the signs have helped. We may need to look at including some other languages. Safe travels Royce and Linda.

I stayed in here for two weeks in February 2011 while I did a course at the maritime college.
I have stayed in a lot of backpackers over the years when I travelled around the world and I thought Accents on the Park was up there with the best.

I was welcomed by the staff and as a solo female I felt at ease. The rooms are a good size so they don't feel overcrowded. The bathrooms were immaculately clean and also of a good size.
There are balconies on each level (not off the room). There is also a restaurant bar downstairs (good prices, good food - from memory they did excellent veggie options).

Other amenities included a public phone tucked into a corner, communal areas and a good sized kitchen.

I would highly recommend staying here.

This hostel ist just great! It looks like a hotel, not a backpackers.

The rooms are big enough and very clean, the bunk bed is the best I ever slept in (you don't feel your bed buddy moving at all!), the bathrooms are big, clean and plenty, the kitchen is very well equipped and also super clean, the lounge rooms is very cosy and the staff is superfriendly and very helpful.
I have been there in the quiet season, so it was quiet anyway, but they have a strict quiet policy, which I absolutely appreciate (no phone calls in front of rooms before 9am and after 10pm or something like that).

Absolute great value for money. I viewed another place for the same price, which ws not even close in quality.

Absoutely great place to stay!!

We spent a night in this backpacker. The owner was very helpful, the room spotless and the bathroom was actually the cleanest we found during our trip around NZ! A complimentary basket with fresh bread and butter for breakfast and parking available for a small price (i think it was around $5). Only one thing: it could have been warmer in the building, but we had this problem in every other accomodation in NZ (kiwis are apparently not very sensitive to the cold !)
We recommend this place!

Hostel was beautiful! Very clean and nicely decorated!

Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. They even told us how to find the centre of New Zealand!

Kitchens were clean and breakfast was great. Bedrooms were lovely and bedding was fresh.

Would definitely recommend this hostel!

I stayed their yesterday night Tuesday 11 September till 2012 this morning 10am Wednesday 12 September 2012 & from the minute i got there the customer service was Excellent, Caring & very friendly...very neat and clean, the ladies bathroom smelt like a beautiful array of sweet flowers. I booked a single room for $50 and the key rental was an additional $20 which was refunded on departure if keys were returned & i only had $60 in total but the staff their were so helpful & generous they let me get away with $10...AWESOME A+++++, Rooms were well equipped with fresh linen, drawer, chair, heater, towel, mirror, varnished wooden storage unit & Bed lamp...not to say the most spectacular park located across the road on the corner of Selwyn & Trafalgar place, The lodge itself located @ 335 Trafalgar Square, Nelson-Located 5 minutes walking distance from the Trafalgar square itself. I would recommend this backpackers lodge to any traveller to this Town. Thankyou to all the staff at Accents on the Park:)

Room Tip: A room that suits your needs & Budget:)Rooms on 2nd level have lovely views:)

My friend and I recently stayed at Accents on the Park. We booked a twin room and even though the room we had had 4 beds in it there was no one else in our room with us. The rooms were quiet, very warm and beds very comfortable. Car- parking was just behind the building, which was fantastic and at $3.00 per day, very affordable. Every thing was extremely clean and Royce on reception was very friendly and helpful, in particular not laughing at us slightly "mature" backpackers bringing copious amounts of luggage up and down the stairs into our room. The venue is only a few minutes walk to the main street providing great shopping, restaurants and bars. Even though their main doors close at 9.00/9.30 you are provided with a key and can let youself in through the back door whenever you like! Don't even get me started on the bathroom!! Absolutely fantastic showers, very hot and high pressure, underfloor heating on tiled floor and good size mirrors, hair dryers etc - very important for us girls! I would definately stay here again, it was extreme value for money, and have since recommended it to many people. Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: If you wanted a double room the one at the end by the laundry looked very nice and had it's own...
