Nelson was the first stop during our 2 week trip in the South Island. The town is a little sleepy, but beautiful. We spent 2 nights at the Cedar Grove. It was in the center of town and just up the street from the visitor center and the main street. The room was quite large, small kitchenette, seperate bedroom, nice bath room (even had a jacuzzi tub). Overall, very new and modern with lots of space. The facilites were well kept, and the staff were helpful and courteous. Would stay here without a doubt if we are fortunate enough to make it back to NZ someday.

This is a good basic motel, it is well maintained and has free washing/drying facilities. The rooms are not large, but OK. The whole complex is extremely compact. It is well positioned in Nelson. I suppose we were a little disappointed given the write ups on Trip Advisor but actually it's fine, not however outstanding. The staff are friendly.

Totally agree with all the positive comments others have made about Cedar Grove, we stayed here for two nights and the quality, service and location were all outstanding.

All the basics are covered, and lots of nice-to-haves as well.

Really helpful and friendly staff, clean and modern rooms, and easy walking distance into town.

Stayed 2 nights at the Cedar Grove, very comfortable & clean accommodation, we had upstairs unit overlooking courtyard with sitting/dining/kitchen area, seperate bedroom and bathroom & balcony. Good location in a quieter area but easy walking distance to interesting little town of Nelson. Our favourite eating place was the Cafe Affair, stonegrill steak was superb.
