This new motel in Motueka is modern and stylish. They made the decor much more interesting than that of a standard roadside motel, with everything being modern and tan in color. Note that the room I got is somewhat different than the other rooms in this property since it was Unit 1 which is a studio in a different building from most (all?) of the other units. This unit is the furthest from the street and has no neighboring units so it was fairly quiet. It had a glass sliding door unlike the other units which have a standard door. One drawback to this was that the unit got a bit hot with all the sun coming in and the unit has no A/C (although hardly any motels on the South Island have A/C). I liked the comfortable futon bed and the cool throw pillows that came with it which made it very comfortable to sit in for reading or watching TV. There was a small kitchen area in the room. One thing that was missing was a closet and storage area for luggage; only a coat rack with a few hangars was provided. The bathroom was nice although having a shower with no curtain or door was a bad idea since the bathroom floor got all wet (although the photo on their website shows a normal shower stall so this could be an anomaly with Unit 1). Also, it was a great value for what I paid. Note that this is in Motueka, which is about a 45 minute drive from Nelson, but much more convenient as a gateway for Abel Tasman activities. Since the current listings for Nelson contain motels in Motueka, I'll list this one under Nelson also.
