I stayed at The Sails Motel earlier this month for 4nights. My fren was visiting his hometown and made all the accommodation bookings. It was my first time staying in a motel and I was actually quite fearful for the accommodation in Nelson!
But when we pulled up at the motel, I was very impressed by the "modern-ness" of the motel. I had in a mind a motel being "retro" and "old and faded" and "musty" but thank heavens The Sails is all modern and clean!
Car parking was simple enough and check in was a breeze.
We had initially booked ourselves into the room with a jacuzzi (not sure the grade of the room) but we upgraded ourselves to the studio suite (I think) which had a bedroom, living room, kitchenette and a bathroom.
I had a fun time staying the 4 nights. It was like an studio apartment concept back home.
The rooms were CLEAN. The sofa felt CLEAN. The carpets felt CLEAN. Basically, I felt really comfortable. The motel is new so I really hope they can keep up the standards.
The bed was comfy and as good as any 5 star hotel.
The bathroom was spacious and clean.
The utensils in the kitchenette were clean. And there was a dish washer (wow! we don't get the concept of dish washers back home. we either wash the dishes ourselves or we have domestic helpers to wash them). There were all forms of cutlery and pots, etc. It's like a real home and you can cook up a feast! Almost! Especially good if you are traveling with young children and you need to cook for them.
Many TV channels available to choose from and free wifi (yippee!)
Quite a central location and the shops are a quick 7 minutes walk away. But we drove so it was like a minute's drive away. But it was peaceful at night. I slept really well for the four nights I was there.
Washing machines are located downstairs so it was great for me as I was on a month long holiday. Washing machines were clean.
Max and Robyn (owners of the motel) were friendly (pure NZ frenly if you ask me!) and helpful.
And I absolutely love the breakfast Eggs Benny. I had it every morning! You order the night before and they send it up the next morning. It was delicious. I really really love it. It is as good as Daniel Bouland's DB Bistro's eggs benny. Maybe better! Slurp. And it was very affordable and reasonable!
Only minus point is that their toiletries are not replenished adequately enough. But they are using Linden Leaves. Quite an upmarket brand for a motel I think.
Other than that, I can't think of anything that I want to complain about. The price I paid for is also reasonable. So I really can't complain.
Anyway I really had a good stay at The Sails.
Hey Max and Robyn, thanks for the great stay and please keep it up!
Hope to be able to visit Nelson and stay at The Sails next summer!
