“Close to Nelson City - clean and nice spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

We stayed in the Nelson City Holiday Park mainly due to the close proximity to Nelson city (which itself it lovely and absolutely worth a visit). The park is not one of those huge chain parks, but quite small and has a lovely flair to it. We loved the herbs garden out of the kitchen and there is definitely no better camping ground if you want to explore Nelson and the surroundings. The owners were super-friendly and facilities were very clean.

Room Tip: There are spots over a bridge, but the bridge itself is _very_ narrow. If you happen to have a large...

We stayed rwo nigts on 10th/11th October, and at first were quite happy with the site. Unfortunately we had been directed over a very narrow bridge with a very large campervan. Fine until we tried to get out. The dump site was at the entrance to the bridge and someone was working on it making it very hard to pass, and our van got some side damage. The following night we had a site this side of the bridge, which was ok, but the showers were a bit pathetic, the mens werent working at all, and the womens was only warm, and soon went cold.

They need to do something about that bridge, it's only fit for cars.

We had the studio motel unit and stayed here for 2 nights. It was very pleasant and comfortable. We arrived after the front office closed and had some problem with the intercom. Lucky for us the staff who stayed just next door came back to check on the park at that time. She was very friendly, completed the check-in process quickly and showed us to our unit.

The unit is clean, beds are comfortable. Kitchen is small but well equipped. Bathroom is big, bright and clean. Quite a long walk to town but very easy with car.

We visited this looking for a cabin in for our Nelson stop over. We frequent this type of facility by choice, so I won't be comparing our cabin to a hotel at all (although it did have units, and parking spaces for campervans). There was also a small playground for kids.

All our dealings from booking on line, dealing with them in person, signage and confirmations etc were professional and friendly. The team were frequently seen moving around the camp, cleaning, checking on things and having friendly chats with guests.

They obviously take their role very seriously and have plenty of signage up on road rules, and tourist camping guidelines for visitors to NZ, and local takeout joints with phone numbers etc.

The kitchen facilities aren't huge, and are perhaps a little dated. But I was impressed there were scrubbing brushes, cloths, teatowels dishwashing liquid and hand sanitiser all provided - and all looking spotless/brand new.

The site is VERY clean, and in the bathrooms there was signs up around hygiene when multiple people are using the same facilities. We were there 2 nights, and I noted that not only were the bathrooms scrubbed top to bottom, but even the shower curtains were taken down to soak. Showers were free, and hot with not bad pressure. The hair dryers weren't working, but there was a sign to say you could borrow one from reception.

Internet wasn't free, but I did note they had Metservice for free which was very helpful.

Our room was a good size for $55, with a very comfortable bed, and a deck with a table and chairs. We paid $4 for our linen and towels, and the lady gave me an extra towel noting I'd probably need it with my long hair. Sheets were clean and crisp and towel were thick and fluffy. The cabin was warm (terrible weather which is unusual for Nelson) and there was also a heater we didn't need to use.

It's not really walking distance to town - but it's a very short drive.

As a previous reveiwer said this is not a holiday park, it is really just some powered sites on a small area of land, with a few motel type units and a few basic cabins. The toilets and bathrooms are clean, TV room and Kitchen very small. Staff are great, couldn't have been more helpful and very friendly. But if you are holidaying in NZ or in Nelson this is not the place to stay. It really would just be if everything else was full up. I stayed because I wanted very cheap accomm for a night, and the cabins were the cheapest in town other than to stay in a shared room in a hostel type accom. But even then the sparse (but warm) cabin at $65 should really be $40-$45.
