“Brilliant stroll through the past”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

Love the ambience of this part of Oamaru and admire the effort it has taken to preserve it intact. Each time we visit we find more and more to interest us here.

“Interesting trip to yesteryear”

Fun place to while away an hour or two. Good art shops, plenty of history, good cafes and not to forget the Whisky shop!

“The must-see Oamaru experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

Probably the only precinct like this left in NZ. The locals are to be congratulated for the clever preservation and ongoing small business development in an area once destined for demolition (with the closure of the port).
Lovely Victorian stone warehouses have been re-used and recycled into quirky businesses: second hand books, junk shops, crafts, stone sculpting, art. You can even ride a full size penny farthing. And there's the mad steampunk! Just wonderful.

“Get out of your car and walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

Some very interesting buildings best seen on foot both inside and out.
We visited the Information Centre where we viewed a dvd with the history of Omaru which certainly helped.
