“Comfortable older hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

A group of us stayed here for a conference, held in the hotel. An older hotel with a more modern extension, this was comfortable and convenient. My room was in the newer part at the rear overlooking the port, away from traffic noise. I would stay again if I was visiting Oamaru.

Stayed June 2012, traveled on business

A great place to stay with wonderful facilities and clean, spacious rooms. Would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: We were in the restored part of the hotel, directly above reception. The room was spacious, and sun...

The Brydone is a great central location, easy walking distance to the heritage area and the penguins. The staff are friendly and helpful and the service was excellent.
We were pleasantly surprised by a bag containing several Easter Eggs on Sunday.

Excellent value for a short break.

This hotel is very dated but as it is in a heritage area it is probably is not out of place. It is right in town where everything is in walking distance. We checked late which luckily had a discounted price for that night otherwise it would have been too expensive. They charge $4.00 extra if you pay by credit card (even if your stay is a lengthy one ) which I think is a bit greedy.

Room Tip: Check online for late deals

Convenient for being close to home. The bar/lounge is very comfy and welcoming. Drinks are reasonable. Rooms were average ( comfortable and all we needed).Ensuite very cramped and we had an issue with the water which they remedied by allowing us to shower in the opposite room - not ideal, but it did the trick. We were there for the Heritage weekend, so were enjoying the festivites and not in our room much. One night there was a function on in an area directly under our room, so we had LOUD music til midnight - which again wasn't ideal and certainly killed any romantic ideas - it was so loud, we couldn't hear the TV without blearing, that I didn't feel comfortable having it on at all - so we lay in bed and sung along to the music from downstairs - no othr option really. But it did finish sharp at midnight.

Room Tip: Maybe check for any functions on and get a room in another area of the hotel.

We recently stayed at the hotel and had a very pleasant stay. We were to stay in a double room however were upgraded to a very large family room in the older section of the hotel. The room was very modern and extremely clean. If you stay here grab a meal across the road at Fat Sally's it is an exceptional restuarant. Nice hotel close to the centre of town and the historic section.
