“A good deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013 via mobile

The outer decor of Anne Mieke may be simple with a neat garden and a rather shabby signboard but step inside and u will find a warm cosy setting. For a family if 4, our room came with a king and 2 singles, a sink, and cupboard. not much space but good enough for just a night stay especially since the price was good. Toilets were located just opposite the corridor, and were kept clean.

Liked that there was a nice selection of teas, some cookies, and fruits for guests to help themselves to in the lounge.

We were greeted in the morning by our good hostess who was so patient despite us being a lil late for breakfast. Breakfast was nothing to shout about though, very standard toast and muesli sort of affair.

I would recommend this guest house to travelers who wants a decent stay for a decent price.

My wife and I were recently searching for B&Bs in Oamaru late one Saturday afternoon and thankfully we chose Anne Mieke first. We were met with a very colourful and tidy garden and smile from the owner's son. After having been given the tour we chose a double room with a very large glass window which looks out onto the ocean and parts of the Victorian precinct. We were very impressed with how very clean everything was. The closeness to town was very handy being only 2 minutes walk away. Very good value for a double room, cosy and very quiet. We would definitely stay again .

This is a lovely B&B in the quaint town of Oamaru. The hosts and staff are really friendly and helpful. We stayed in a family room with en suite bathroom that was clean, comfortable and at a great price.

Guests who need to do cooking and laundry are better off in a regular motel. This place is more suitable for those after a laid back homely atmosphere. The lounge area has free wifi too, something I've not encountered much in other hostels and motels around New Zealand. We thoroughly enjoyed this B&B experience. Highly recommended

I stayed at this guest house for a few days away recently. It is a family business, run by a retired NZ Army officer and his family.
The guest house is located at the south end of Oamaru within walking distance of the CBD and historic whitestone buildings. It overlooks the harbour, making for a spectacular view in the mornings.
The rooms are very comfortable and have been recently redecorated (the proprietors commented to me that they have been working on this over a considerable period of time). The rooms and communal toilets and showers are kept scrupulously clean.
If one has the time, a visit to the yellow eyed penguin colony, a short distance away down by the harbour is well worth while. The penguins come ashore at dusk and a full scale viewing facility with visitors’ centre has been set up.
Continental breakfast only is provided in the mornings.
An interesting comment about the Anne Mieke and Oamaru environment in general was made by a couple from Tauranga who were staying there at the same time as myself. That was “No boy racers, no screaming sirens, and no tagging.”
It is certainly a most friendly and welcoming establishment, and for someone wanting to stay away from hustle and bustle is perfect.

Room Tip: If one feels the cold in winter, ask for a room on the street side of the house rather than on the h...

This is a basic, clean, good value bed and breakfast. The room was large. Shared bathroom and toilet so first one up in the morning gets the dry floor. A nice touch - there was a bath robe in our room for use getting back and forth to the shower. Breakfast consisted of juice, cereals, tea/coffee and toast. Nothing cooked. I can't believe that this B&B has only one review - the visitors book indicates that it is well patronised and with good reason. The proprietors are friendly and very helpful. It is a short walk to all the attractions in the town. We would stay again.

Nice and familial accommodation. The hosts are very friendly. Some rooms have a private bathroom. Beautiful view over the harbor of Oamaru and the sea. Car parking in the street. Close to the Towncenter, Harbor and the penguins colony. All takes between ten and fifteen minutes by foot. Restaurants are also close.
