I recently stayed at the Jet Park on three separate occasions during my visit to New Zealand and Australia. Based upon reviews of this hotel posted on TripAdvisor regarding the noise from traffic on the adjacent highway, I e-mailed the reservations office at the Jet Park and requested a room on an upper floor that faced away from the highway. I received a reply e-mail the following day advising I had been allocated a specific room on the top floor, facing away from the highway, for all three visits. True to their promise, I was allocated the same room for each visit. Although the room did not directly face the highway (I could see the highway but did not hear any traffic noise), the room was directly above the outdoor patio / employee break area. At times, several employees would gather on their break (even in the late evening) and their voices carried all the way up to the second floor. If you do request a specific room, I would suggest asking for a room that faces the hotel parking lot which seemed to be quite quiet all the time. I think these rooms have even numbers.
The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. On each of my three visits I called the toll free number (0800-538-466) for a pickup from the airport after I had collected my luggage. The van arrived within 15 minutes and 10 minutes later I was at the hotel. Check-in was quick and handled professionally. During check-in I made arrangements for my return shuttle the next day.
I reserved a "single" room via the Jet Park website for US$98 (couldn't find a lower rate anywhere else). The room was small and the furnishings a bit dated, but the room was very clean. The bathroom appeared to have been recently renovated. The A/C worked just fine as did the TV, except there were only about five channels available with limited programming.
The hotel has a restaurant with a pricey menu. I decided to catch the shuttle back to the airport where I found a decent sushi / noodle place in the International Terminal (closes at 7PM). There is another branch of this same outlet in the Domestic Terminal that closes later. Additionally there was a pizza place, Asian food place, and of course McDonalds. The hotel is located in an industrial / semi-residential area where there are no stores or restaurants within walking distance so be prepared to spend a few $$$ at the hotel restaurant or to go back to the airport to eat. Also, I could not find a vending machine with snacks / beverages on ANY of the guest floors so be sure to buy something at the airport before you go to the hotel. The hotel has a gift shop but it doesn't sell any food or beverage items. FYI.
The hotel has a guest laundry and iron with board on the first floor (2nd floor for us Americans); NZ$4 to wash and NZ$3 to dry. The dryer didn't seem to work too well so I had to spend NZ$6 to get my clothes dry :(
The "single" rooms are in the older part of the building which needs some renovation. Although the common areas and hallways were clean, they were dark and uninviting. The larger rooms were in the new annex where the lighting was much brighter making for a more pleasant environment. An additional annex was under construction.
The return shuttle left exactly on time (every half hour on half hour) but must be pre-scheduled. I made to the airport in less than ten minutes.
Overall a nice hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. A good place for a one night layover but certainly nothing longer.
