“average, disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

My flight was cancelled and the airline put us overnight into this hotel. It was not a good experience - the bed was hard, the pillows old and flat and I had to carry my suitcase up a flight of stairs. There was hair in the shower. The plus was the room was very quiet and was a good size and I dont know if it was good value as the airline paid. If it is cheap then an OK choice if flying as it close to airport

Room Tip: choose ground floor otherwise you have to carry your bags upstairs

Pros: Large rooms and spacious layout; good value through our travel agent
Cons: Rather dated with little modernisation in recent year, cockroaches in the room, bathroom plumbing old and shabbily repaired, charged $5/person each way for airport connections, charges an extra 1.5% for credit card use (unusual to have surcharges on this level of hotel in NZ).

Room Tip: Ask if any have been refurbished in recent years

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your stay and your feedback. We take all the comments very seriuosly and use those to improve our standards.
We are very sorry to see that the transporation cost $5 per person for your aiport connection disappointed you. This service certainly is one of the most cost effective and rated as a very popular way of transportation by the majority of our guests. Our aiport shuttle service is operated by a contractor and runs 365 days a year. We believe that we have done our best to keep the price at $5 per person and feel that it is a very reasonable fare comparing to the taxi cost at $25 each way. However we appreciate all guest comments about our shuttle service.
In regards to the credit card surcharge comment, please accept our sincere apologies that it was an inconvenience for you. Providing the credit card facility as a form of payment for any establishment is highly costly. Surcharge for this service is very common in these days and it is applied by the majority of Hospitality Services such as Airlines, around the world regardless of their star rating. On the other hand, settling your account with an alternative method of payment such as cash or eftpos transactions will not incur any surcharge. We hope that this helps you to arrange alternative method of payments for your future travel.
We are very disappointed to hear that the condition of your room wasn't up to the standards. We have completed refurshing some of our rooms and rest of the project is still underway. However we will certainly consider your feedback and take necessary actions.
We again would like to thank you for staying with us and appreciate all your comments.
Yours Sincerely
Oytun Cevik Rooms Division Manager

As we had an early flight home wanted to stay near the Airport. We stayed in the "house" ajoining the hotel and it was a very basic with a damp odour. The Bedroom backs onto a main road with trucks passing all night and NO sound proofing of the windows......for $230 it is very poor value.

We spent 3 nights at the Grand Chancellor Auckland Airport and I must say that it was the best hotel experience we have ever had!!! The staff were always smiling and helpful, and the restaurant staff never frowned upon us even tho we walked in there 15 minutes before it was due to shut... The staff member who helped with the check out was exceptional he went beyond my expectations. I managed to book our hotel online and received a 15% discount, i also paid a extra $10 per night and received a $25 voucher to use on a room upgrade or in either the restaurant or bar. I didn't realise that we were to receive a voucher for each night we stayed until we were checking out and the friendly staff member informed me of this and we saved $75 on a restaurant bill.. I was very impressed. The rooms we very clean and towels, coffee, soaps etc were replenished daily. People kept asking if we were rich to be able to spend our stay at The Grand Chancellor - we are far from and i do not understand why people think you must be rich to stay.. Yes it is a flash hotel from the outside but the room was not what you would expect. Do not get me wrong it was worth what we paid but it was not the Taj Mahal....I would definitely book again and do recommend this hotel to all, if you can get the 15% special with the $25 vouchers :)

We stayed here for one night because of the airport but I wouldn't stay again. The staff is very nice and helpful but the rooms were not the cleanest. The bathroom and beds needed are proper cleaning and a bug spray.

I think it's better to stay at a hotel in the city and then take the Airbus back to the airport. There are direct city buses that stop right in front of the hotel and go the city. It takes about 45 minutes and costs around $12/person. A cab would be $60. There is a convenience store next door and the hotel has a decent looking dining room.

I stayed here after a long flight back from Europe that got into Auckland well past midnight - and because there was a online special - that included breakfast and parking for my car.

First impression - easy to find, clean and friendly staff at the check in. They had a security guard walking the perimeters which I felt was really nice travelling as a single woman in the middle of the night - and I had to walk from the car park to the hotel (though not far at all and good lighting).

The room - rather large for a airport hotel and with everything what one would need - even a little patio for the smokers.

Bed very comfy and bathroom basic but hey one only needs it for a shower. Generally a good airport hotel and most importantly quiet.

Room Tip: I did like my standard room but I heard there are superior rooms as well - not sure if one really ne...
