“Everything a budget airport hotel should be.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

Spotlessly clean, great shower, comfortable bed (only complaint is it was on wheels so moved a little), TV, and black out curtains.

Didn't hear any sounds from outside and got a great sleep.

Only complaint was the check-in staff weren't particularly friendly and even though she was on the phone for about 5 minutes before dealing with me, I felt like she could've at least acknowledged me with a smile and a hand gesture.

Great price too.

A clean and tidy place to stay, but for the small extra cost it would have been worth putting tea/coffee making facilities on each floor (free) and a glass in each bathroom so that you can drink water and take tablets.

Good value for money. Some of the reception staff are friendly and helpful while others seem less so but in general are able to assist with requests.

Rooms are small and furniture and layout are simple as expected of a budget hotel but are very very clean.

The location is excellent. If not taking the yellow shuttle bus, one can also choose to walk to the airport which takes around 15 minutes or less.

Stayed there for 3 non consecutive nights as we had to take domestic flights for this trip and it is convenient to be staying at a hotel that is so near the airport. the first time we took the shuttle bus for $5 a person but the bus was late and I felt that the price was a bit unjustified as our hotel is only 5 minutes drive away. Second and third time we just walked - which was really ok unless you have a lot of luggage. In fact we saw some people bringing the airport trolley to hotel and push it back the next morning - seems to also work.

If you're on a budget, the Ibis at Auckland airport is an excellent choice. Best of all, it's walking distance to the airport (only 5mins to the Domestic terminal). The first few times that I have stayed the hotel was called Formule 1 and the shuttle to the airport was free, but last time they had re-branded to Ibis, and had started charging $6 for airport transfers (rather expensive if travelling in a group, especially when the airport is such a short walk away). When arriving late at night I opted for the shuttle option and subsequently regretted the decision, as it took 25 mins to arrive, and then a further 10mins waiting for passengers to purchase tickets from a machine! Rooms at the Ibis are basic, small and clean, and are equipped with everything you need for a one night airport stay (with the exception of tea and coffee making facilities, although I believe that these are available at the lobby).
If you're looking for something economical, you can't beat this hotel for price and proximity to the airport, however if you have more to spend, I would suggest the Novotel which is just outside the International terminal.
