“Convenient, Comfortable, Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2010

As an American who has traveled a fair amount around the world, I find it somewhat difficult to give this hotel a review that everyone in the world would find satisfying. Americans, for example, would consider this hotel to be "bare bones" while I would expect that most Skandinavians would consider the hotel to be adequate. I am writing this review as an American to advise other Americans about what they can expect to find there.
My company uses the Hotel Dan often due to its close proximity to the Copenhagen airport. The traveler can literally walk to the hotel in less than fifteen minutes. The hotel runs a shuttle service to and from the airport in the morning and in the evenings, so if your flight arrives after 10:30 am or before 5:30 pm, you will either have to pay a taxi or walk to the hotel.
The rooms are quite small by American standards, as are the bathrooms. Soap is dispensed via a wall mounted dispenser by the sink and in the shower. The dispenser in my shower didn't work. I commented on it daily to the maids during my four nights there and never ended up being able to access the soap while in the shower. The European style shower allows the water to basically flood the bathroom and drain into an open floor drain under the sink. The tile is slick, so you need to take great care when getting out of the shower. Do not expect to have washcloths- single room occupancy basically gets you two medium sized towels.
There is also no temperature control in the room. The room temperature is what it is. Your only option is to open a window if it is too hot or ask for another blanket if you are cold. There is a restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast and lunches are available buffet style, and the food is good. The breads are home-made and are incredible.
The bar is located just off the entry area next to the front desk. The bar closes early on week nights- usually around 10:00 pm. The "jewel" of the hotel is the fitness center. It is located in the basement of the hotel and is available around 6:00 am although one morning when I went to use it, the manager didn't get it opened up until 6:15. There are a large number of spa quality machines, stationary bikes, treadmills, and even free weights available. The conference rooms are large, and attendees have a number of ammenities available to them during the meetings. The only down side was the inability to regulate the temperature in the conference room.
The staff at the front desk are extremely courteous and professional. All of the ones that I encountered were multi-lingual and accomplished in English as well as other languages. The hotel is located near a couple of small convenience type markets as well as Italian and Chinese restaurants, which are both good.
My biggest disappointment with my last stay was on the morning when I went to check out. Someone had evidently billed a dinner and drink at the bar to my hotel room. When I explained to the desk clerk that I had not even been in the hotel when the charges were made, she quickly removed them from my bill and apologized for the inconvenience. Two weeks later, a new charge showed up on my credit card for the meal and drink. I ended up having to dispute the charge through my credit card company in order to have it removed.

Any contact we had with the staff was polite, friendly and professional.
The room was big, calm, well equipped and with a private atmosphere. Through the large window section we enjoyed the great view over Öresund, to Sweden and the fascinating sight of the planes in- and out of the Airport.
The hotel is placed in the native Amager - close to bus, metro and Airport - and with recreational areas - a great contrast to the down town Copenhagen.
I cannot think af anything bad about this hotel.

The single-person room was small with one single bed. The bathroom size reminded me of a bathroom in an RV. I am not accustomed to seeing mold growing in hotel showers as was the case in my room.

I had brought a hanging bag and there was no where to hang it in the room. In a normal sized room, I could either leave it hanging on the back of the bathroom door or lay it upon the spare bed or one side of a bigger bed. It wasn't worth fighting the lack of space so I left my bag closed up until the morning when I was finished with the bed and I could spread it out there.

The rooms are noisy, so if you're a light sleeper, you should hope for courteous guests in adjacent rooms, in the hallway, and especially the room above. While other may have had a good view, my room looked out on the hotels dumpster, miscellaneous debris, the access drive around the back of the hotel, and the backside of the adjacent apartment building.

Amenities in the room were minimal: one bath towel, one hand towel, one disposable plastic cup, and a small bottle of hand lotion. They had a dispenser for the universal soap/body wash/shampoo in the shower. If you want a bar or soap, you better bring it with you.. I usually don’t bother ironing my clothes before a trip, assuming they will just get wrinkled in the suitcase and I’ll have to re-iron them in the hotel. This is the first hotel I’ve been in where the “iron as you travel” routine hasn’t worked since there was no iron or ironing board in the room. They did have a TV in the room which sat on a mini-bar refrigerator. The channel selection appeared to be limited to about seven local channels. If you speak a Nordic language, you will find the TV entertaining.

I guess convenience is in the eye of the beholder. If you exit Copenhagen airport’s Terminal 2 into the parking garage, follow the marked pedestrian path, and exit the garage towards the motorway, you should find a pedestrian bridge that crosses the motorway and ends on Kastruplundgade. On the airport side of the pedestrian bridge you have a choice of steps or low-pitch ramp which is real handy if you are rolling a heavy piece of luggage. However, on the city side of the pedestrian bridge, you have to navigate the steps which do have the European-standard bicycle ramp. The hotel is then a straight shot down Kastruplundgade about 0.5 miles and on the right. You can cut your walk by about half if you take the Metro train to the first stop (Kastrup), exiting right, and then making your way to Kastruplundgade, where you take a right (away from the airport) and walk a block or two to the hotel.

The complementary shuttle bus runs every half hour to the airport. Given the relatively short time to walk to the airport (about 10 min), waiting for a bus on the half hour is annoying. I tried to catch the bus “on the half hour”, but it had left 5 minutes earlier. Instead of waiting, I just walked to the end of the road, scaled the steps of the pedestrian bridge with my bags, and got to the airport before the next shuttle would have arrived.

I found three restaurants in the vicinity: one in the hotel, a pizza joint about 100 yards towards the airport, and a Chinese restaurant right across the street. I tried the Chinese restaurant and it was acceptable.

To use the internet, you get a single-day free pass with a logon ID and password from reception. Note that if you use both a PC and a cell-phone that uses wireless, you need to get two separate passes (with different userID’s and passwords). I like to use my iPhone on Skype for free or very cheap phone calls while traveling. On the iPhone you must have the phone accessing Wifi to use Skype. The problem is that you have to turn your wireless access off on your PC so the iPhone will work. Each time you do the handoff, you have to retype in the cryptic userID and password. This is a particular pain on the iPhone’s small screen. Even when I wasn’t going back and forth between iPhone and PC, the wireless internet would drop my PC and then require me to enter again the userID and password. The single day internet free pass seemed to work for one calendar day, not a 24 your period. I couldn’t get the wireless to work with the userID and password the next morning, 12 hours after checking in. It wasn’t worth the effort.

I understand that you usually get what you pay for, but this place was really expensive for what you got. When things started to get noisy, I contemplated moving to the Hilton which is between the airport and the airport metro station – super convenient to the airport and really nice.. Expedia had the Hilton for less than I was paying for this room.

The best thing about the room was the comfortable (albeit small) bed. The worst thing about the room was the tiny bathroom which didn’t feel or smell clean due to mold

Nothing special.
It is an old place that was quickly refurbished.
The service is poor and not very welcoming but the place is OK.
Do not expect anything special.

My family and i had a great weekend at the hotel.
Nice quiet nabohood and a fantastic view in the morning out over Oresund and when the weather is clear you can see to Sweden.
There was no noise from the traffic or orther guests.
The beds was very comfetable and there was a nice breakfast where you could eat in peace.
I want to say thanks to the Hotel for making it a nice weekend in Copenhagen.

Best Regards
Ove Jensen and Family

Nice hotel i appropriate distance to Copenhagen centre. Only few minutes to brand new metro, which takes one directly to Kgs. Nytorv. Nice staff. Top international breakfast buffet. Good parking facilities. So all-in-all a superb hotel. We will most definitely come back again!
