October 2012, double room, lake view.
Special occasion for the family so i wanted a special place.
On internet, Aquaris looked like the modern, cosy place i wanted.
Not at all what i expected, so this is the reason of this review.
First surprise - on the arrival - paid parking for the hotel customers. Not a common practice here in Romania. Ok for non-customers (the area is crowded in summer) but for customers?
Restaurant - Good waiters and food. Common, cheap chairs. White, cheap plastic framed windows (same all over the hotel).
Restaurant`s toilet - The creepiest place in the entire hotel. Inside a cabin someone worked on the pipes and left the plastic covers unmounted, the finishing touches between the white plastic door and its wall could have been way much better and both liquid soap holders were cheap ones and left a big pink soap trace on both basins.
Room - Cleanliness, minibar, information foldouts, internet - very good. But...
I could easily hear my neighbours talking. Phonic isolation is a funny word in this hotel. Also amusing was the way we could easily hear the showers from the upper floor when they were used. The big textile assembly at the end of the bed was a big sponge covered with a thick textile, poorly sewed at the edges. They looked like being sewed in the nearby village. Textiles on the bed`s other 3 edges (under mattress) were bound to the wood bed frame beneath them with 6mm cheap automotive screws. I sat next to bed when i saw them and burst into laugh. Felt like being in my backyard garage.
Bathroom - Clean, but totally bad finishing. Like the workers were either on big time pressure or (very) badly paid. The smell inside the bathroom clearly meant that somewhere the pipes didn`t blocked the smells from the sewer. The wall fan couldn`t keep the pace with this smell. Ceramic badly placed on the walls. The cement from the joints was funny too.
Balcony - iron casted banisters already corroding.
Next morning we go to:
Restaurant - same polite and well trained waiters. They washed the image of this hotel. Breakfast - very ok.
Bar (front one, as you go down the big stairs) - Sunday, 12.30 PM - Totally disinterested personal. Half of the tables didn`t have chairs. Half of the remained didn`t have pillows and were scaterred all over. I spotted two recently left chairs, with pillows on them. Grab them and placed them at our table. None of the hotel personnel offered any service during this operation - they weren`t to be seen anywhere. The guy at the bar was a jack of all trades - mixing, squizing, washing dishes, etc so didn`t want to push him further. Sat with my wife and looked at the next table 5 min to see if anyone will come and clean the used glasses and cups from it. Eventually one guy came. He cleaned the table but left the chaotic chairs in the same position + breadcrumps and other little dirts on the table. Placed the dirty glasses, cups, etc on the bar and disappeared. We stood 10 min there, in front of our coffees and curiously looked if anyone will bother to take them from the bar`s rack. Not to mention washing them. Nobody. Maybe after we left.
Kitchen ventilation - You can see it even in the hotel`s pictures on their site. Some technical mastermind left it at the level of the first floor. We were lucky - we slept on the other side of the hotel, but, while sitting at the bar and drinking our coffees, we couldn`t avoid the strong kitchen smell that splashed all over, exactly under 2 floors of open balconies. A marvel to enjoy your sunbathing in the kitchen smells.
Overall conclusion - A fine, beautiful design/architecture idea put into practice with cheap and common materials, badly paid or unprofessional construction workers and kept on the survival line with bad management and half unprepaired personnel.
Wouldn`t have been so dissapointed if the price wouldn`t have been that of a luxury hotel and my expectations on the same level. You can`t offer common services but demand prices of top ones.
Choose the ones with the lake view. You`ll avoid the kitchen smells that the front rooms can`t esca...
