I stayed here for 3 night at the end of November 2007, a few weeks after the hotel opened. Overall my experience was fantastic and I would highly recommend.
I paid UAD$210 per night for a one bedroom superior apartment with private sun terrace area and private Jacuzzi spa, which I booked directly with the property – which was a bit cheaper than via the website. It is far from being the cheapest property in Hervey bay, but the quality is worth it.
The apartment was very large and very well equipped. The kitchen was full size and had: Oven, 4 ring electric hob, microwave, kettle, 6 place settings and a variety of cooking pots, etc. The living room area was large and had a dining table, sofa and 2 chairs, flat screen TV and DVD. The guest bathroom (near door) had shower, sink, toilet and washing machine / dryer, ironing board and iron. The main bedroom was large, with flat screen TV, walkin in closet, very large bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, his & hers sinks and large shower. Finally the ‘superior apartments’ have a private sun terrace area with sun loungers, table /chairs and a private Jacuzzi spa (which can seat 4 people). The terrace is access from both main bedroom and living room. There is a large underground car park, which a designated space per apartment, which is accessed via a key fob. There is a nice swimming pool at the rear and access to the beach (across the road) via a private exit (key fob again). Some of the ground floor apartments have private access to the swimming pool directly from there sun terraces into the water – a nice touch. The property opened October/November 2007, so all the rooms are new and all fittings in perfect condition.
Whilst this property is part of the Accor (Mercure) group, it is nothing like any Accor brand hotel I have ever stayed in. The apartment complex appears to be about 30% hotel and 70% private apartments (maybe timeshare). At the time of my visit some apartments were still for sale. There is a restaurant area, which was not (yet) completed. There is no bar (possibly it will be in the restaurant area when they have finished building it). The reception is open only during business hours Mon-Fri, for a few on Saturday and only 2 hours on a Sunday morning. Checkout is 10am which I think is very early. The full room charge must be paid on arrival – but I understand that is the norm for Hervey Bay. There are no porters / concierge, etc. The property appears to be run by a couple (Michael & Wendy) who I think are owner / managers. They were both friendly and helpful, and provided advice on tourist things to do and also booked a day trip to Fraser Island – a great place to visit.
