We stayed at Boat Harbour from Nov 11-15 - we loved it so much we stayed an extra night as we were supposed to leave on the 14th!
It is a little bit hard to find at night so make sure you follow their directions and NOT the GPS in your rental car!!!
It is a bit out of the way but to be honest there isn't really much in Hervey Bay to start off with as it seems to be a stayover spot for tours.
We went for breakfast a couple of times down at the harbour and that was nice...
There is a seafood retail shop right down the road and I recommend checking it out! For A$30 we got a LOT of fresh seafood to cook up for dinner! Mussels, shrimp, and coral white fish - a LOT of each for a little bit of money!
We did the Fraser Island Explorer tour and it was good but a really large crowd - a smaller crowd tour would be nicer. You spend a LOT of time on the bus getting to each spot on the island. The Air Fraser plane ride for $70 is definitely worth it!
All the tours can be arranged by Rosalind and Robin.
We stayed in Villa 4 right across from the office and LOVED IT! We were so shocked when we arrived and saw our unit. The patio was amazing, it was two bedrooms with a comfy couch, chair, TV, cable, and a great kitchen! The unit is completely stocked with everything but food!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was like being in our own home!
We also went on the Krystal Klear Glass Bottom Boat tour and really enjoyed the day out on the ocean! The lunch they provide is amazing and so is the adventure - dolphins, turtles, snorkelling and touching coral!!! So worth the $90. They also sell beer during the tour. Wine is included in price.
Murray and Andy are excellent hosts and make your day worth it!!
Note that everything seems to close early in Hervey Bay so if you are arriving late make sure you get some groceries / liquor before you get there!
We drove through the town of Maryborough but didn't stop - we wished that we had the time to do so! It is beautiful!!! Very old!
