“good location for Fraser Island”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2008

We stayed at The Mantra for one night either side of a trip to Fraser Island, it is ideally placed for this, although most trips will collect you from your hotel.

The hotel was clean and staff friendly and all rooms have Jacuzzi baths. However rooms do differ in layout and size – our first room had a very small and cramped balcony; however the second room has a better layout and balcony much bigger.

There are two pools – a small one for children and a larger adult pool - some of the rooms do have balconies with direct access to the pool. There are BBQ facilities next to the pool, however the nearest place to buy food for this is at least 5- 10 mins drive away.

There a number of restaurants and gift shops next to the hotel, together with a fish and chip shop, the main Hervey Bay esplanade is about 10-15mins drive away (there are plenty of taxis).

The hotel are happy to store any luggage for you whilst you are away on Fraser Island, however they were not very flexible over the check out time. We asked if it was possible to delay our check out and the reception staff advised me to speak to Housekeeping, which I did. They informed me the hotel wasn’t busy and were happy for me to check out in the afternoon as they didn’t need to clean the room that day but to speak to reception to confirm the time. When I spoke to reception they advised they did need the room unless I was prepared to pay half of a day’s rate!

Stayed here for four nights with my Dad when we first arrived in Australia. Our two bedroomed suite was fully equipped and very comfortable. Reception staff could not be more helpful and overall in our jetlagged state this was a good choice. We decided to keep our room on while we went on a two day tour to Fraser Island as the hotel was good value for money.
However, the Mantra is really an aparthotel, set up for self caterers and not for short stay tourists. There are no facilities at the hotel apart from one internet booth and the pool. Nearby restaurants are excellent but the only shopping you will find is for souvenirs. Be prepared for a very long walk for any forgotten essentials.

Great hotel, great pool, great restuarant, great location. The mantra is a nice clean hotel situated on the marina, so it's easy to jump onto a boat for whale watching on to go to Fraser Island.
Plenty of places to eat and the club is 50 metres away.

We booked this on the strength of past reviews and it did not disappoint. We had a nice balcony overlooking the harbour and all the boats that go out for the whale watching (see photo). The pool looked really nice but sadly it was really windy so we never got to use it!! We had a spa in our spacious room which was a nice surprise. Reception were helpful and friendly. Would happily stay here again.

Stayed at the Mantra for 3 nights in a hotel room. The room and balcony was very small compared to other hotels I have stayed in. It was however very clean with a lovely view of the marina although there was not much sun on the balcony. The amenities in the bathroom were quite good, eg spa with a window looking through to the bedroom area and beyond to offer the same view as from the balcony. Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, bath gel etc was also provided. The tissues, toilet paper and towels were all thin and not good quality. Our bed which was two singles pushed together was uneven and made sleeping uncomfortable. The tv was tiny (34cms). The reception staff while polite were not particularly helpful. I don't consider this hotel to be anywhere near other 4 * hotels I have stayed in. The Mantra is right on the Marina and there are about 6 options for eating out (although we didn't think the quality of food was that great.) To get to the main part of the esplanade it is a very far walk. There are so many new holiday properties being developed in Hervey Bay that will give more choice for accommodation. The Peppers Pier and Pier One apartments on the Esplanade looked good. Hervey Bay itself, while it is quite pretty, is quite small and limited as almost everything is geared around Fraser Island (worth seeing) or whale watching tours. As a couple in our 30's, we would not choose to return to Hervey Bay anytime soon.

We booked this hotel from the reviews from Tripadvisor. Wasn't disappointed. The hotel had actually changed it's name from Outriggers to Mantra - we hadn't been informed and was looking for the Outriggers. Eventually found a very small sign informing us of the name change.

The hotel was clean and is located in an ideal position next to the small marina of Hervey Bay. There is no restaurant facilities within the hotel, but there are about 4/5 different restaurants around the hotel.

The hotel staff very very helpful and were able to answer any questions about the surrounding area.

We hired bikes for 1/2 day from reception, and was an ideal way to explore the surrounding area's - we cycled along the cycle path all the way to Point Veron.

There is an internet connection in the reception area, it is a basic screen and keyboard, so you cannot use any USB connections to send pictures etc. But it was ok for checking email etc.

We stayed at this most wonderful apartment in Hervey Bay.
On our touring holiday we stayed at some pretty ropey places and having not paid a huge amount of money to stay here it was with some trepidation I put my key in the door, I was delighted I actually jumped for joy!
The apartment was a decent size, it was clean and fairly new.
The Laundry/bathroom had all we could want with bath and shower and full laundry facilities. The bedroom even had a tv on the wall and king size bed and the lounge diner/kitchen was lovely with all we could want.
The best was yet to come. Steping out onto the balcony ( or terrace I suppose as we were on the ground floor) the view was lovely looking out to the marina and we had scored a room with direct access to the pool via a pool gate of our balcony down a ladder and we were there.
We had 3 wonderful nights here and were so sad to leave. There is not a great deal of action around but one nice restaurant and a sailing club with a great cheap bistro.
We will 100% go back, I can't wait!
p.s. did I say I liked it!
