“You have to stay here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

Out of this world! Everything was first class the service, food, room outstanding.

Staff were also wonderful particularly Mike and one of the guys who greeted us for dinner and served our drinks he was fantastic but unfortunately I can't remember his name :(
He is a hunter ( as is my boyfriend) and my boyfriend enjoyed talking to him about hunting in the area as that is what he was there to do.
The owner also took the time to come and talk to us which was nice.

Only negative I could say about our experience was that I requested my poached eggs to be very well done they came back twice and the yolks were runny. My boyfriend ate mine as we were embarrassed to send back a third time but the food was delicious otherwise.I feel like I'm nitpicking even mentioning this as it's such a small thing and the staff were only too happy to try and get them well done.

Limited choices though if you are vegetarian as I am, only 1 choice at dinner I didn't mind as it was very tasty.

Would recommend staying more than one night to make the most of this fantastic place. We will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the tree houses can't recall the name I think it was Kokura or something lik...

We spent 1 night in one of the family top tree with our 7 years old son.
It was so good that we though our stay was definitely too short.

Everything was strictly perfect. From the magnificent view on the sea on one side of the room and the mountains on the other side, the architecture of the house, the menu for the evening (with our son's name on it, he loved it), the fantastic cook and so on ... The staff is very friendly and attentive to every one needs.

If you can, it is a must do for your holiday in New Zealand.

Room Tip: All tree houses are great.

We loved the tree houses, which were beautifully appointed with log burning fires and stunning views. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was overly fussy and with a limited menu we found the evening meals a bit of an ordeal. Just sometimes when your travelling wonderful ingredients cooked simply make the best evenings. Sadly for us the weather was stormy and we couldn't make the most of the pool and grounds and we couldn't do the local walks but this Lodge has lots of things to do.

We have stayed in many lovely hotels throughout the world. Hapuku Lodge is one of our all time favorites! We stayed several days and wished we could have stayed longer - stunning views, beautifully appointed rooms and well thought out details. The Koru woo/possum/silk cover on the bed is amazing and may be purchased in the gift shop. The food was absolutely delicious -- very creative -- and welcoming, superb staff.

Room Tip: Top floor of the treehouses are a must!

We stayed overnight in Kaikoura in our journeys through the South Island solely to stay at the tree house in Hapuku Lodge -- it was worth it! Lovely property, great room, perfect in all of the details. The food was wonderful, and the hosts were friendly and always ready to assist. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate so we were not able to fully enjoy the surrounding grounds but perhaps that is why we will visit again.

We stayed in one of the tree houses and they are stunning. One of the best rooms we have ever stayed in, with fantastic views, fireplace in the room and a deck for looking into the very dark night sky.
The on site management team bent over backwards to give us the best service possible and the food was absolutely top notch.
We would highly recommend this luxury resort as a great sot in NZ.

2/28/14-This place just blew my hubby away...as we walked into our upper branch tree house the iPod was playing our favorite jazz music. The views of mountains, olive orchards, deer farm and the Pacific peaking at the back edges were all so captivating. The food at the main lodge was fantastic (ask for chefs seating for a great show) The temp fell that night and hubby made a "real" fire and said he hadn't relaxed like that in ages. I agreed as I fell asleep in the comfy bed to awaken to a stunning sunrise. His first question was "please tell me we're here more than one night!" We booked two thankfully or we'd have felt so robbed. We will be back again and prob 3 night minimum next time.
