It's such a cliché, but this was one of the most magical experiences of our time in New Zealand and one of the most amazing things i've done in my 23 years on earth so far!
I've been swimming with dolphins before, but it was nothing like this - there were so many dolphins to swim with on this trip and they were all so curious that they came right up to us and made eye contact with us! Once you'd made eye contact with them you could swim in circles with them, which was just...well, magical!
I've read at least one comment on here that indicates that the service on the boat was below par, but my boyfriend and I experienced the exact opposite. The staff on board were lovely, made sure everyone was safe and looked after those that were feeling unwell - all with a smile.
The only possible negative to this trip is the potential for seasickness. We went out on the 5am swim on a very rough day and lots of people were seasick. Although the crew look after everyone, this would probably put a bit of a dampener on your trip if it happened to you! My recommendation? Head to the local chemist and get his special seasickness remedy, which is called the Kaikoura Cracker. It's a miracle worker!
As for safety etc. I would say the ocean was a little too rough on the day we went out, but I never felt unsafe (and i'm not a very strong swimmer) so I wouldn't worry too much. You are provided with 5mm thick wetsuits, so you definitely wouldn't sink anyway!
Definitely a must-do if you're in the region :)
