Ever had a friend who was alittle rough around the edges?..... this is the place in Kaikoura !, it's a motel that is in need of some TLC, it is currently 'For Sale', however does not excuse, the basic things that are being overlooked to be either repaired or have a scheduled maintenance programme in place, combine this with the owners licence plate on his car of 'Dilligaf',(Australian term of "Does It Look Like I Give A Fu*k"!) says a thousand words!.
This place is straight out of the 1960's, to the point 24th October 1964 infact on the hot water cylinder, now you may be asking yourself, 'why was he looking at the cylinder?..... has he a hot water cylinder fetish?..........ahhhhh no, it is because, when you take a shower, the hot water will last for aproximately 3 minutes before it goes to cold, and stays that way even if you turn up the hot water on the tap fitting.... grrr, maybe I thought it was due to the fact it may have been switched off...ah no it was left on for 24hours, and same result, if you are like me, when staying somewhere the shower is has to be spot on....
next.... quant little note in the dish cupboard, stating the last 'occupier of the room washed these dishes and put away, so can you also'.. yeah sure I will do the dishes if you care to come and clean the room and change the bed linen (stayed for 3 days) not once the bed linen was changed or the room vaccumed...ewww, god I need a cold beer!.AHHHHH, the beer is warm how can this be?, the temperature dial in the fridge is missing, the fridge is in Fukashima mode!, maybe I should send an emergency email using the Zenbu Wifi internet connection, I tell myself don't be silly, just ask the owner, which I do and got a 'Dillgaf' excuse..... ok I can wander to one of the two taverns not far away (Robbies or The Lobster Inn- one with the huge lobster on it), after having a jolly good time at Robbies, I stumble, fall, pick myself up again, play chicken with an 18 wheeler as I negio....neg... try to cross the road, I manage to get to the unit, I cold shower, then slip into bed ( actually quite, infact very comfortable) the 1960's bed valance needs to be burned at the stake, and a nice makeover would do wonders, the room has a TV with both SkySport (slightly redeemed) and Discovery plus FreeviewTV as well a cheap 32 LCD wouldn't go amiss, the TV is far to small for the room, now speaking of room, looks like a job lot of aqua green paint was purchased in or around the late 1990's, time to repaint, reclad, or just update the inside! the carpet is threadbare, a tacky blue carpet with several years of dog hair on it and NO AIRCON these rooms have a stunning views of Mt Fyffe, you couldn't ask for better, there is a smallish seating area outside of the unit, be warned, extremely hot on blazing sunny days, the motel urgently needs a repaint, and weed control.
If you want new towels, coffee, sugar, soap each day it will pay you to ask at the office, because it won't get replenished, first time I have actually had to ask a motel owner for, which just goes to show the level of customer service at this motel........ skanky.....if you want to over look all this then it will be your palace, but if not try somewhere else and in this pricing range.
Defintely a rough diamond this place
