“Lovely accommodation and hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2010

It was really nice. Very comfortable, beautiful views. We stayed for two nights, and had a very lovely stay. Rooms were extremely clean and well supplied. The breakfast was awesome! The local knowledge of the hosts was very helpful - and we were very appreciative of their advice of what to do and what to see!

Loved the two dogs - Ziggi and Nico!

Would definitely stay here again!

“Tranquility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2010

We came to Breakers for a weekend escape from the kids, looking for somewhere to relax. We found a gem over looking the sea with magical sunsets.

We don't normally stay at B&Bs or upmarket hotels but this was a treat and a place well worth visiting to help revitalise the soul.

“WONDERFUL RELAXING ESCAPE IN A ROOM WITH A MAGNIFICENT VIEW”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2010

Right from the moment we arrived Jan made us feel at home. She was extremely helpful and informative as to what to do and where to go in the local area. We fully intend to revisit Breakers later this year to relive the moment and soak up the Sunsets again.

“Poor value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2010

The location is remote on a windswept beach strewn with driftwood. We paid $300 per couple (there were 3 couples) which was said to be a discount. We had just stayed at a 5 star hotel in Queenstwon and paid less for much more. We needed to leave at 7.30am - this was apparently too early for us to be cooked breakfast so we were left a bowl of muesli and some fruit the night before. There were few items of crockery and no utensils in the room. We were required to remove our shoes before entering the rooms and the house. The cost of dinner (chicken lasagna) was said to be $70 per head - we declined. Very poor value for the money.

Getting a poor review on tripadvisor is always disappointing for anyone, especially when issues are not brought up in person for more productive and rewarding outcomes for both parties. However all feedback is important.
Regarding the issues raised in particular the breakfast timing, breakfast times are noted on our website and in our guest compendium but in hindsight we could have been more flexible in this instance and for that we do apologise. We do endeavour to make our guests stay as enjoyable as possible as you will see from the rest of our reviews.
Regarding the other issues, shoe removal has always been our policy – partly due to our strong environmental commitment but also our culture and in-room slippers are provided. The majority of our guests actually offer to remove their shoes before I have to ask.
The comment regarding the lasagne is totally incorrect and we would appreciate factual feedback, as it is fairer to all. Our three-course dinner is $75 per head – prebooking is required. These guests did not take this option so on arrival they were offered our in-house menu. A very popular option for the majority of our guests with pricing of $25 to $30 – removing the hassle of more driving and being able to relax and enjoy our fantastic sea views.
I don’t think it is ever fair to compare hotels and other forms of accommodation types – we all offer something different. Our offerings are exactly as noted on our website together with rates – we don’t force anyone to stay with us.
Finally as far as the discount goes, this was my offering – it wasn’t asked for and in NZ any offering no matter how big or small is more usually accepted with a thank you.

“Wow.....the Gem of the South, trust me Im a Travel Agent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2010

My husband & I stayed here on our whistle stop tour of New Zealand. Sadly we only had 1 night here to break up our journey to Te Anau. Seriously this was the best little B&B ive ever stayed in....picture the scene, gentle waves laping on the sand of your own little private beach...what more could you want....a waterfall, beautifully attended landscaped gardens and attention to detail? You;ve got it ALL!! We stayed in one of the superior rooms...just beautiful, up to date furnishings, Iron & ironing board, TV, alarm clock, seperate amenities area with fridge, kettle etc, very large room & a fantastic shower and bathroom. All the water used at this property is collected rain water! Very ECO friendly it was lovely. They also have a no shoes policy in the rooms, with slippers provided for you instead! As a Travel Agent myself, I took a look all around the property, the rooms in the main house we really nice too and each and everyone of them are very large with Sea views. UK standards definately 4*. Fantastic hosts, lovely breakfast, beautiful location a perfect retreat...only wish we had 3days there!. Jan will give you everything she can to make your stay a complete pleasure. Sh cooks a mean breakfast and even offers th option to have dinner if you want or need too. Oh and by the way, they have 2 gorgeous dogs, but dont worry...Im scared of dogs but they have been so well trained that they stay away from you, they're just a pleasure to watch...Cant wait to return, you'll love it!
