“A treasure at very reasonable price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2009

this place is such a treasure, very clean and with interesting theme for each room. The room we stayed is Giraffe room. It is spacious and comes with a queen bed and a single bed. The setting of the room is so elegant and it almost make me feel staying at a 4 or 5 star hotel.
We arrived before other people checked in on that day. We visited a few other rooms. Although there is not much to do in Greymouth, this place is itself an interesting place to visit and stay.

I've stayed for one night in this backpacker in Greymouth. It is an amazing backpacker accomodation in a heritage building with animal theme throughout the whole place.

I lived in the panda room. The room is a clean and spacious first floor double room, good lighting, with garden view and lovely panda image painted in the wall. Towel is provided as most of other backpackers where we have lived. It is in the first floor outside the security door. Naturally it make me feel a bit unsafe but it should be OK in this safe country. The bad thing about this is during winter it may be a bit cold to stand and enter the pin to enter the main building to have toilet or shower. For the room I give 4 points.

Kitchen is well equipped. There are many sink to use so when one is stuck and not taken in time you can still use the others. Still not a problem.

Dinning room/lounge is cozy. Maybe there isn't enough lighting for me.

Toilet and shower room is very clean and comfortable to use.

Location is very good. Very close to the town center. Greymouth is a small place with no much places of interest thus I mark 4 for the location. No private parking but street parking is available. Check if it is free of charge before you book.

There's spa facility but I didn't try.

Overall, I give 4/5 rate to this charming hostel. It's a good value backpacker and worth a longer stay to have more fun.

This is a very quirky hostel with all the rooms designed to an animal theme hence the name Noah's Ark. We stayed in the elephant room which was clean comfortable and warm for the chilly nights in Greymouth. The Kitchen, tv room and lounge were all very clean and with Jess the hostels kitten running about there was always something to occupy your time.

I stayed at Noah's Ark this summer (their winter!) and loved it. It was friendly, immaculately clean and very cosy with a wood burner going in the hall and a log fire in the huge lounge.
My friend and I stayed in the Pigs room! But the owners let us have a look at each room - it's a great place and I took loads of pictures there.
I would recommend this to singles or familys or groups.

Well, it looks like an old nursery house on the outside, but rooms are beautifully decorated under the animal theme.

I stayed in the "zebra" room with black & white striped bed sheet. Zebra wall painting & cute little decorations around the room. There is also a fireplace in my room (though it doesn't work anymore). Room is big and cosy.
I peeped at other rooms and they're all interesting.

There is a real fire place in the TV room which is rare. No games room & cafeteria, simply a big table in the huge TV room, so be expect to smell food while others are eating.

The hostel situates in a residential area with quiet surroundings, but close to the city centre, 3 mins walk to McDonald's & KFC, 10 mins to train station. Staff is busy but nice. Suitable for backpackers who want some peace & tranquilty.

Make sure you visit the Shadytown to do some gold mining! It's just 10mins drive away.
