“Excellent holiday stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We rented the two bedroomed apartment on the ground floor. This had a lovely garden, parking space and wonderful views over Whangargei. The apartment was spacious, well-equipped with everything you could need, including a washing machine, iron, tea/coffee, shower gel and shampoo (very useful after a week of travelling!).
The hosts were very attentive and were a mine of information about the locality and beyond. Lots of tourist information available to browse. Very peaceful setting.

I spend 2 month in Whangarei for work and stayed with Wendy and Urban for the whole time. I received the most cordial welcome and they provided me with help for every aspect of living there and often pointed me in directions where I could explore yet another place in my spare time. There attentive attitude guaranteed a great time.
The location of the B&B is in a very nice location on a hill overlooking the town, but quite and still close.
This would be the place for me to choose for another visit, holidays or work.

We arrived in pouring rain after a difficult journey and were unimpressed by our greeting by the owner which was take your shoes off and as my wife is away we provide the breakfast but you make it.

Having said that this is good quality accommodation about 3km from the town centre, but not easily walkable as it is along busy roads.

The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and gives excellent views over the town. As a B and B it provides full facilities, full kitchen , washing machine and a private lounge.

It is among the more expensive of the properties we stayed at, and considering the DIY breakfast does not offer best value for money

I'm very sorry that you were disappointed with having breakfast in your apartment. Wendy who normally runs the B&B was overseas. Due to other commitments I had, you received generous provisions in a basket - an option we have always given our guests (around 50% choose this option).

Unfortunately, as I didn't know your arrival time (we have arrivals up to 10pm) I already did the shopping instead of offering a no breakfast option - I realise I should have tried to contact you to explain the situation. We will communicate more clearly in future if and what sort of breakfast is included in the price.

We run the B&B first of all to meet travellers of all kinds. It's absolutely true, breakfast is often the best experience for both our guests and ourselves due to the conversations. We always try our best to make our guests happy and I am really sorry it was not what you expected. I hope that despite this hiccup you enjoyed your stay in Whangarei.

Kind regards, Urbi

I would warmly recommend Wendy and Urbi for anyone travelling with family or friends. A nice house and cozy rooms. A beautiful garden and views. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Stayed here for the first night after 36 hrs of travelling, and had a great sleep.

Room Tip: A big downstairs with a bedroom and also another private "apartment" upstairs with own bat...

This guest house was a wonderful surprise even on a rainy day. A good situation, easy to find, very professional service and well informed hosts ready to advice on just about anything a foreign traveller in New Zealand needs to know.
Our boys loved the well stocked DVD section and the well stocked kitchen
And all quite reasonably priced too.

Room Tip: if you are a family ask for the 2 bedroom apartment, it feels like home

This accomodation was outstanding, my husband, myself and our 2 young children stayed here for a couple of days at the end of a very packed holiday travelling around NZ. It was the perfect way to unwind and relax. The 2 bed apartment is set up in the hillside of Whangarei with the most outstanding views and is very peaceful. It is very spacious with all amenities that you could possibly need (including laundry and toys for the children). The hosts Wendy and Urbi were wonderful, very welcoming and kind. They have the most amazing amount of knowledge on the area and are full of ideas for places to visit and things to see, also providing us with print outs to show us directions etc which was most helpful. It was thanks to them that we managed to pack in such a vast amount of sightseeing in such a short time that i'm sure we would have missed out on if it wasn't for their advice. We had a wonderful breakfast in the hospitality of their own kitchen and dining area and was made to feel so very welcome. The continental style breakfast was very enjoyable with a great selection especially the home made blueberry pancakes (sorry Wendy i can't remember the NZ name for them). All in all we had a fantastic time and our only regret was that our stay was too short. But we will definitely return as soon as possible.

A wonderful holiday apartment, beautifully furnished with everything a family or group of friends would need to self-cater for the weekend or longer. There's a good book and DVD collection, and plenty of boardgames in the cupboard. The kitchen was also well equipped.

Our bedroom was very comfortable, the bathroom well appointed.

In the morning we enjoy a varied and delicious continental style breakfast, packed with tasty bread, jams, honeys, fruits, cereals and coffee. We ate this in the sun outside, watching the birds flutter around- lovely.

The location is wonderful, 5 minutes drive from Whangarei central, but in a quiet hillside suburb with beautiful views over the town. I particularly liked the little guidebooks put together by our delightful hosts, which were packed with useful information about places to eat, practicalities, and day trips and walks in the area.

I would strongly recommend this B&B to couples or families who will be staying in the area. We hope to return.
