“No airconditioning nor ventilation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

Generally good accommodation but definitely not on a warm spring day/night as the premium rooms (upstairs river view) do not have airconditioning nor air ventilation. Windows are unopenable (paint) and as balcony is shared with other rooms, leaving balcony door open all night is not an option. No fan other than a miniature split system heater that was useless. Only option was to swelter all night. Furthermore, smokers on either side partaking their habit on the balcony necessitated closing door because of cigarette odours. Overall, we were quite disappointed with the accommodation provided.

We only stayed one night, Room was nice and clean, bed comfortable also. On check in we were told restaurant was not open to night as they had a party on. WT, they also said there would be a bit of noise from the party, but would be closed at 11pm. 12-30 in morning loud music and noise stopped. We would have taken up there offer I an other room , even if it was to cost us more, if we had known they were not being honest.
Not likely to stay again.

Room Tip: Get rooms away from reception, make sure you find out if there are any loud partys and if the restau...

Stayed here for two nights while going to the Bay of Islands, traffic, rain and roadwork meant we could not and did not want to go any further so we used the Hotel as a base for our trip.
After our terrible night at Auckland at a large airport Hotel we decided to find a better place next no matter what, so we stopped at the information centre told them what we were looking for and they gave us a couple of locations
We always stop outside and look at the hotel presentation before deciding to go in, what can I say, open grassed area, trees etc all tidy and giving a welcome appeal
We booked in, the girl at reception was pleasant and helpful, we asked about dinner but they were fully booked but they contacted us and managed to fit us in if we could eat early, around 6.00pm,
The dinner was great and service terrific, meet the manager, Rick, who was very obliging and helpful, had dinner the following night as well, as we both only have a light breakfast the :tea and toast" option suited us
Overall a great place to stay and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone

We stayed for the weekend while visiting family. Room was downstairs at the back. The rooms aren't huge but fine for the two of us. The bed was so comfortable.

The restaurant food was great. Staff are polite. Quite stay. Curtains darken the room. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in a standard room with a 'garden view', aka a view of the car park (room 54), for three nights. The room was clean and bright but quite cramped, with a small bathroom. The mattress needs replacing as it was severely bowed in the middle. Check-in was efficient but we felt the welcome could have been a bit warmer, and we would have appreciated some information about the local area. The price was very reasonable.

I recently stayed at Discovery Settlers in Whangarei with my husband and son. It was a great place to stay, the people were friendly and the location fabulous. Whangarei Marina was a great place to visit and I enjoyed a look around the Bay of Islands while hubby went King Fishing, it was just a 45 min drive to Bay of Islands, and offered so many other things to see and do. The hotel staff were able to point us in the right direction for things to do, as we hadn't visited the area before.

Booked a room here at short notice. Rate was very reasonable. Arrived early evening, check in was quick, service was friendly. We had been upgraded to a kingsize bed. Room was spacious, furnishings were modern. Bathroom was small but had been well set up to make use of small space. Wall heater was noisy but very efficient. Not sure if there should have been a remote with it. Restaurant was good, arrived for dinner at last minute, which was not a problem. Meal was good. Breakfast was reasonable as well. Unfortunately the manager was on his mobile at a breakfast table discussing various things, which we found a bit annoying. Also, receptionists were eating as we checked out which really was not a good look. Hotel was handy to all places we needed to visit.

Room Tip: Choose a room second block from the road.
