“Stunning and worth the visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

We arrived half an hour after opening on a mid-winter's day, a Friday. The sun was beaming in and the place was still empty of patrons. There appears to be a lot of seating, so it must get rather busy. The menu was simple, with a few added specialties to mix it up a little. Drink selection was adequate and the coffee was really really good.

The scenery and gallery attached make this a wholesome enjoyable trip from Whangarei, or anybody heading North.

Only wish we had found it sooner.

“A let down after several previous good experiences”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

Our daughter gave us some money so that we could enjoy a Mother's Day brunch together. Having been to this cafe several times before and because we have always enjoyed the brilliant views and browsing the attached art and craft gallery we chose to return. In hindsight perhaps Mothers Day was not a good time to return. Many others had the same idea and the cafe was chockablock. We placed our orders and were told that there would be a 30 minute delay for our meals. 55 minutes later we were served and what a disappointment. The seafood chowder was delicious but the portion size was "very meagre". The salmon salad was a joke; 2 x wafer thin slices of salmon dropped onto a bed of rocket with a sliver of tomato and avocado alongside does not constitute a "salad". Tip for cafe owners: if you get overwhelmed with numbers then just turn the customers away with an explanation advising that you are overwhelmed and running low on food. DO NOT try to stretch the food out by cutting down on portion size and be honest when advising expected service delays. We will return because the views, ambience and art gallery alongside are (usually) well worth the trip out from Whangarei (but not on Mothers Day!)

“Hidden Gem in the Far North”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2014

What a great experience visiting this gallery/sculpture garden and cafe tucked into the hillside on our drive out to Oakura. Our friends (family) came with us as it's a local fave for the great mix of local art, and fantastic views, with casual but tasty food to boot. Found great treasures in the gallery after a walk about the garden, then enjoyed a lovely lunch (antipasto plate was great mix). Add this to your "must do" for pretty coastal views, nice food and service, and for finding this gem away from the tourist brigades.

“A hidden treasure”

This is a great cafe in a stunning location. The food is lovely, and the service good. We went a few times over Christmas/New Year on our way to Oakura.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

The locals told us to visit this cafe , and on a wet wet day our party of 6 enjoyed a great lunch with good coffee and great views.this place is a must visit , the gallery is also very good with some great art from local artists even if some of the prices are a bit extreme to say the least .We enjoyed it so much we went back the next day as well.and it was just as good .well worth a visit .
