This is well worth a visit and not merely if one in interested in clocks. The quality of workmanship, the clever mechanics and of course, the historic nature of many of the exhibits are endlessly fascinating. Also, being located at the Town Basin, a weekday visit allows easy parking and combination with lunch or coffee. The precinct is also great for a take-your-own picnic.
Many years ago, as a 12 year old boy scout, our troop and others had a camp close to where Archie Clapham's home was located, near the Whangarei Falls. Three of us were given the honour of a personal tour as in those days. the collection was located at Archie's home and generally, not open to the public. So, re-visiting the collection, now located in a dedicated space and building, was rather special.
The museum has a very good shop with all manner of things related to clocks and watches but also, very reasonably priced souvenirs of all descriptions. This is all well worth a visit as it is so unique!
