“Never seen so much carpet in one room!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

We stayed in The Grand Park Hotel for one night, was nothing special.
There was way too much Carpet which they had also suck on the walls and the room wasn't every modern at all, although the bathroom seemed to have had a recent refurbishment. If your a non smoker you can tell the pub and rooms use to be smoked in as they smelt like stale cigarettes. The room also came with a free continental breakfast which we thought would be a fry up but it was just few pieces of boring toast and cereal.

We are sorry that we missed the mark with your stay. Thanks for your comments about the bathroom. Many Hotels had carpet around 1 metre up the wall, We are in the process of doing away with this style as we are refurbishing the rooms. The Hotel has been none smoking for at least 20 years and no other guest have mention this. (Neville The owner has been here 10 years and a non smoker himself) We have never known anyone to expect a continental Breakfast to be a fry up. Our Free continental breakfast includes 3 cereals, fruit salad, toast, tea, coffee and a selection of spreads. Our guest have the option of up grading to a cooked breakfast from Ten dollars.

Thanks for your time in writing this review

We recently stayed at the grand hotel, on way to auckland. We stayed at the governer's suite. the rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. there is no air-con, however there is a fan in the bedroom. internet was provided free of cost, and was reasonably fast. shopping strip is close by and there is a countdown 20mins by walk. there is a table tennis table in breakers cafe next door, which could make for some entertaining evenings. definitely would stay again in the future.

Spent two nights at the Grand, a 1920's Art Deco hotel in downtown Wanganui. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Despite being in a Hotel with two bars the rooms were very quiet. Continental breakfast is provided but is limited to cereal and toast. There is an Irish pub bar and a 'Breakers' restaurant within the facility. Both are completely out of character with the charm of the building and management should consider removing and upgrading these as soon as possible. What is it with NZ and Irish pubs? You can't go a block without coming across one. Would love to see the theme in the lobby and adjoining space carried through to the rest of the Hotel bars.
Still, I would have no problem with staying at this Hotel again in the future.

Room Tip: I believe there may be some renovated rooms within the Hotel. Would be worth asking for one of these...

A nice place to stay, for our two nights in a reasonable priced room which included continental breakfasts. Our dinners in the Irish bar and Breakers restaurant were well priced and enjoyable. Although some of the bar staff were new, we were well looked after by them.
The Grand is located centrally, with adequate car parking behind the hotel.
Thanks to the owner/manager for his hospitality.

This was a really nice are of New Zealand, and the hotel is in a great location. The room was clean, large and the staff were great! The food here was really well priced and delicious. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the area.
