“Great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2012

The Ocean View B&B is at the top of a steep road and has a commanding view over the town of Thames. Steve and Julie gave us a warm welcome with tea and muffins and showed us to our room, which was really a private suite of bedroom, TV room (with a view over the town towards the sea) and bathroom – very comfortable! Steve gave us helpful advice about nearby sights, such as the Karangahake gold mining area and the wonderful private railway at Coromandel (and booked us for a trip).

Room Tip: The suite at the top right had a great view

Welcoming hosts. Excellent breakfast. Inexpensive beer and wine available in room. Oceanview suite with excellent bedroom, lounge with all facilities and nice bathroom. Interesting grounds. Walking distance to town but main street is a kilometer long!!

We were at the end of our NZ holiday, and we looking for somewhere to stay in Thames. All the motels looked a bit rundown and were on the main highway.
What a thrill to find Ocean View with Julie and Steve. There were great company, but gave you all the privacy that you needed.
The breakfasts were great, and gave us some great insights on where to eat and drink in Thames.
The bed, sittingroom and bathroom were all beautifully clean, and the sitting room also provided great views over the penisula.
Highly recommended!

What a lovely place to stay with very welcoming hosts in Julie and Steve. We chose to stay in the upstairs accommodation for 3 days whilst visiting the Coromandel for a week, and wish we had booked if for the whole time! Julie was there to welcome us, although we had turned up a little early, she made us very welcome and we were given lovely homemade cake and tea. The accommodation is really well designed, with a bedroom overlooking the beautiful back garden, with plenty of storage and a double bed. The bathroom has a state of the art shower, basin and toilet, again with lots of storage. Then there is a guest lounge at the front of the property with a balcony overlooking the Firth of Thames and a lovely place to enjoy a glass or two of NZ wine. The lounge has a very comfortable reclining sofa, TV, DVD/CD collection and fridge. Breakfast was amazing too, so much choice and all fresh and local foods. I think its the little touches which make this such a lovely place to stay, Julie and Steve have thought of everything you could possibly want to enjoy your holiday and we would thoroughly recommend Ocean View to anyone who wants a base for touring the beautiful Coromandel.

We stayed with Steve and Julie for 4 nights recently and are delighted to have found such a lovely place - we definitely feel we left as friends.

All the superlatives heaped on them are totally justified - Steve's wicked dry sense of humour is brilliant - so totally English! as are his cooked breakfasts - Julie is a born baker - (I still can't get my bread to turn out like your Julie), and returning to our upstairs appartment at the end of each day was improved even more by the biscuits or cakes that Julie had made. Comfy bed and our own private lounge with a little terrace made the stay even more perfect. The garden at the rear of the house is a picture with many places to sit and relax. The location is perfect for us - at the end of a cul-de-sac , so very quiet and with lovely views over the bay. Wouldn't want to walk to the town, though - that hill is a challenge! All in all, a gem of a place run by the nicest couple - keep dancing, both of you and don't forget the pictures, Julie!

Ocean view is a little gem. Julie and Steve are the perfect hosts and we felt like one of the family by the time we left. Excellent attention to detail and Julies home cooking is amazing - not to mention steves cooked breakfasts. We will be back one day ;)

Steve and Julie were so welcoming we didn't want to leave!
It was such a lovely place to spend the first night of our honeymoon, we were treated like old friends and the room was lovely, breakfast the next morning was lovely and I couldn't fault the place. Such wonderful people with wonderful hospitality.
