“Good, but some issue”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2008

I stayed one night in room 102.

Room itself was nicely decorated - if a bit dark - in brown tones. Very clean.

Bathroom appeared to newly decorated - some rethink of design is needed, toilet area got soaked when I had a shower - I think because I am tall and water easily got over / around the small glass partition. Looked good, but not that practical (a failure of many bathroom designs it seems).

Noise from 'piped music' in adjacent lounge area (I think) came through wall into room - could hear it quite clearly when trying to sleep around 11pm.

Buffett breakfast was poor - limited selection of fruit and hot items. Hot items were lukewarm. For $22 I hope for much better. Reaffirmed my view that most hotel breakfasts are not worth bothering with, and if a decent cafe was close by I would have gone there and had something cooked to order.

Quite a pleasant hotel offering reasonable value-for-money. Even though it is located right on the main street and we were there on a Saturday night (and therefore much traffic), the room was surprisingly muffled from all noise. The staff were suitably non-plussed although not rude in anyway, just seemed like they would liked to have been elsewhere. No milk in fridge, but was quickly supplied with some by a smiling desk clerk upon querying. Café is pleasant and coffees come recommended! Only there for one night, but would stay there again, no problem. Room was okay, beds nice and firm. One thing we noticed about all New Zealand hotels that advertise Satellite TV is the fact that they only have 10 or 11 channels, but three of those are local stations!! A bit of a disappoinment and certainly no blemish on this particular hotel.

  • Liked — Comfort, convenience and quiet for location
  • Disliked — Not a lot

We've just spent a wonderful weekend at this hotel. Booked the Executive Suite, which included breakfast at the bargain price of NZ$199 a night. Wonderful room, huge lounge, double spa bath, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The service was perfect - we arrived at 3.30am and were checked in with the minimum of fuss. Having booked online I was careful to ensure we got the right rate (it seemed way too cheap for what we got), and there were no issues at all when it came to checking out - all was in order. Centrally located, quiet and comfortable - definitely the best hotel in town and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. They have a sauna, spa and swimming pool, which we didn't get to try. Great cooked breakfast. Streamlined, efficient and very professionally managed.
