Within minutes of having enquired (in person) after the apartment accommodation at this establishment, the gentleman at reception, presumably the owner, proceeded to tell us "these are quite expensive". Perhaps he thought we did not look like we could afford it? We were neither rude nor dressed inappropriately so my daughter and I were both very surprised and quite offended by his less-than-friendly attitude. He did, however, show us one of the apartments which was modern, clean and well appointed. Too little too late I'm afraid as I had already decided that we were not going to be treated like second class citizens. Unfortunate as this could have been a pleasant long term accommodation option for my daughter who next year is completing the final year of her degree.

We booked this place using our FlyBuys points and when we arrived we were greeted by this little gem.The Apartments were very well appointed and very quiet.
The only let down was a bathroom door that was stuck.
Overall it was great find in PN.

We had arranged to stay at Kiwi Studios in Palmerston North but on arriving were sorely disappointed, so rang around that evening and spoke to the lovely woman at Kauri Court. She was able to provide us with a discount on a two bedroom serviced apartment which she said had been built in April 2011. We arrived the next morning quite frazzled and hoping to find a nice place.

Kauri Court looks uninviting and old from the road but don't let this put you off. This is the older part of the motel, and I can't review what that is like. But down the back of the driveway are several serviced apartments which are large, immaculately presented, and actually bigger than some houses I've been in. Even better, there are inter-joining doors between buildings which can be secured and unsecured in such a way that apartments can be made 3-4 bedrooms, great for families or groups on business. The full kitchen and laundry was great. A heat pump/ air conditioner meant we were toasty warm in the middle of a cold winter. Flat screen tv in the lounge, and one in each bedroom as well. A separate toilet, and also second toilet in the large, well-appointed bathroom with spa bath. Wifi internet very affordable and charged for data used, not time spent. My mother and I were travelling with my two small children and my father joined us later on the trip. We were tired and frazzled in every other regard, but our accommodation was so lovely and spacious that we were able to take time out from each other (and the kids) and had a lovely stay.

I would honestly never even bother staying anywhere else in Palmerston North. Kauri Court's serviced apartments are absolutely THE BEST accommodation in this city and we will certainly return. The hosts are friendly and so helpful. I can not speak highly enough of this place. Don't bother with the old motel bit - try the serviced apartments. Best place I've ever stayed.

Room Tip: Ask for a serviced apartment, not the motel.

Brilliant accommodation, friendly hosts, lovely clean apartment with everything you would ever need. Often 'serviced' means nothing, but in this case they were actually serviced every day.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2011

We stayed just 1 night on our way round the Islands. We had a 1st floor studio room. There is no dedicated parking, but it was quiet when we stayed & we parked near the bottom of the stairs so we didn't have to carry our bags far. Kathryn greeted us - very friendly, chatty & full of information. She gave us a small carton of milk, cookies, & mini choc bars, and showed us to our room where she explained how the heater worked. However, the weather was good & we didn't need to use it.

The main room was large - probably the largest of all the 18 motels we stayed in during our trip! It had a double & a single bed, 2 reclining arm chairs with leg rests & a good TV. It was decorated very neutrally - bedspreads, carpet, curtains, walls. We counted 5 x double electric sockets throughout the room, & there were ceiling & wall spotlights in the main area.

The beds had clean, ironed, fresh sheets & a blanket on them.

The kitchen area was well supplied. The only negative: the hinges on the fridge are on the right, so the door opens out towards you - no big problem.

Bathroom - large! More than enough towels, a large shower with what seemed to be a new glass door. The WC also seemed to be relatively new. There was sufficient vanity space on each side of the basin, & there was a cupboard & 3 drawers under the basin. The shower was very powerful, but it was easy to adjust temperature & pressure. The wash basin was plumbed the wrong way round - cold is to the left, & hot to the right - this gave a bit of a scalding shock. There is a hairdryer.

The room faced west, looking over either a school or uni grounds, but there was no noise from there. The unit was towards the rear of the motel, far from the main road & we could hear traffic when the door was open, but nothing with it closed.

BP garage about 50m away, supermarkets nearby. Took about 5 minutes to drive into the town centre, & that was through an extensive set of traffic light controlled road works.

My husband and I spent 1 night here whilst travelling through NZ. It is a very spacious and clean motel with ample parking space. The reception staff were very helpful in letting us know what restaurants there were in the area. We had a car which meant it only took us 5minutes to get to the town centre. I imagine that if you didn't have a car, it would probably be about a 25 minute walk.
