“Charming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We have stayed at the Margaret River resort twice now. I have to say I quite enjoy its location. Its out of the main street, but within walking distance to the main strip. The Hotel itself has an old English charm with an Australian relaxed feel. Staff have both time been exellent at communicating. They are just lovely. First time we stayed in a room above the pub. I din't find it noisy as some reviewers have mentioned. The second time, we stayed in one of the villa's. I can't say which one is better either way... they felt the same to me, except the villa provides more options, if you like to prepare your own meals when on holiday.

Going back to the location. The area is quite lush and green. Its almost stuck in the middle of Metro Margaret rive, and the forest, with houses planted amongst the greenery. Its really quite beautiful to take a walk. We took a mountain bike ride to the ocean, which was quite nice. Very good biking trails. Shopping is a dream if you like picking up unusual finds.

Sunday afternoons they have a band out at the back. Its no U... but its fun, and family friendly, while couples will enjoy it too.

The only thing I might say about the service that was a little strange was that, on a couple of the days the cleaners, did not replace towels, and one of those days they left a couple of wet towels that we had put on the floor in the bathroom because the shower was splashing water everywhere. Not sure why though, and we never asked, so there may be a perfectly good reason.... who knows?

We stayed over Christmas so expected to pay a high price. 2bed villa was clean and neat and the beds comfy. Lots of spare pillows. Large bathroom and second toilet was a bonus. Veranda overlooking pond was lovely for breakfast. Said it could have slept 6 as there was a foldout sofa in the loft. Glad we did not need this as the loft was always hot even with the aircon on. The pool needed cleaning but still ok for a swim. I wouldn't call the complex a "resort" tho we enjoyed our stay. We would come again but not for the price we paid for Christmas

Having an infant we really wanted a one bedroom apartment, so we had a door to close after we put him to sleep. The room was perfect! Service was great and my request of a room away from others was met. There were two tvs which I have never seen especially in a room of such good value. The spa was the perfect spa for one but also fits two (just). The grounds are nice and I would of used the pool ( which I was looking forward to) if it werent for stormy weather. The furnishings were nice, slightly dated and worn but I barely noticed and these things are expected as it was still cleaned and maintained well. Housekeeping and reception staff were very friendly! Indian restaurant was not bad value either. Overall a much needed pleasant night away!

My Wife and I stayed at the Margaret River Resort on a Voucher for two nights on the 1st & 2nd of Dec 2012. To be honest after reading some of the negative reviews we were a bit worried about what we were going to find on our arrival. We were greeted at reception by such a pleasant and helpful young lady who could not have been anymore helpful if she tried. Nothing was too much effort and she went out of her way to promote Margaret River itself. We had an upstairs Spa room and it was spacious and very clean with everything you required for a pleasant stay. We ate at the Indian restaurant at the front of the resort and it also had pleasant staff and the Food was of high quality. The little Pub at the front of the resort is a nice quite place for a drink in the afternoons again with delightful Bar Personnel. If I had to have a negative comment it would be the traffic on the back road is a bit noisy but once you shut the balcony doors it is quite inside the room.
I would recommend The Margaret River Resort to anyone who was heading down to the Margaret River area and again Thank You for a pleasant stay

Room Tip: The two room spa units at the back of the resort are quite

We booked the Margaret River Resort's 2 bed villa for ourselves and our friends. I am basing the review on the villa itself and the main bedroom. Light and airy, spacious, clean, great open plan lounge/dining/kitchen, well equipped and good sized bathroom. We loved the outdoor dining patio leading out onto a grassy area with a pond - perfect spot for a sundowner.

We would have given a 'poor' to our room and the pullout sofa upstairs sadly, the comfort of the bed(s) just let it down for us, and made for 2 nights of little sleep (our friends had a firmer bed and they were happy). All credit to the front office manager however, who took our 'bed' concerns very seriously and was looking into it at time of writing, much appreciated.

We would definitely book the Margaret River Resort again (but check the bed beforehand! ;)). Even though it's a little off the main street (8-10 min walk). The facilities: parking, pool, sauna, tennis courts, bottle shop and fab Indian, make for a great, convenient stay.

Room was won in a comp and given to us, so we weren't too fussy as accommodation in the area is generally overpriced. We had the spa suite with kitchenette. The carpets, couches, curtains and bed spreads are pretty old and definitely need upgrading. The room had a bedroom with el cheapo flat screen, bathroom and living area/kitchenette with tv. Their rooms are non serviced, so if you are looking for somewhere to get room service etc. go elsewhere. There are pub meals available at the attached Knights Inn, but we didn't eat there so cannot comment. We ordered takeaway from the attached Indian restaurant and really enjoyed it. The pool area is nice, has a bar there, whether it is ever stocked and staffed, I dont know, might be for functions or something. The sauna is stopped and started by yourself and locked by a screw at a lowish temp, so start it an hour before you want to use it. There is a tennis court but you have to hire the gear and a little playground that my 2 yr old daughter loved. Hotel is approx 10mins walk to main street with bars, shops restaurants etc, it is on the road to Prevelly Beach and the river mouth approx 10kms. We had no complaints with this hotel and enjoyed our stay, I think it is just a bit old and might be pretending to be something it is not. Be careful what you pay to stay. 3/5 stars.

We recently stayed in the Brokenwood Suite being the best room in the resort. We choose the Margaret River Resort because of the restaurant and hotel facilities. The televisions were old and reception was poor. The room was however large and the bed comfortable. Everything else was awful. The Hotel and Restaurant which is marketed as being part of the resort is managed by different company and therefore there is no room service, no breakfast facilities etc etc.

We ordered a meal from the hotel and took it back to our rooms (remember no room service). The next day the cleaners left the trays in our room because the hotel is a different company (lucky I didn't order Indian or something similar).

It got worse. The room was supposed to be serviced however all the cleaners did was change the towels and pull the sheets up. (they did not even make the bed properly).

The reception is only staffed between 8.30 and 5.30 or similar and I found the staff somewhat unfriendly.

The location is quite good about a genuine 5 - 10 minute easy walk to town.

In summary - try other locations in Margaret River as our experience was poor. The hotel staff also commented on the lack of co-operation by the resort.

Room Tip: Don't choose the Brokenwood Suite as it is overpriced for what you get. If you want to stay cho...
