Owner description: Lake Cave is a stunning crystal wonderland and the only cave in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge with a permanent lake. It acts as a mirror of infinite reflections that is truly magical. The cave is renowned for the ‘Suspended Table’ – a five tonne column of calcite that hangs from the ceiling just a few centimetres above the lake. The precinct features impressive retail, interpretative and cafe facilities. Located 25 kilometres south of Margaret River.

“The best cave in the area!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

Despite having stiff legs the next day after the 600 steps down and up, this was well worth the effort. Informative and friendly guide, ensured everyone had a good view and didn't rush us all back. Just remember in peak holiday time, it's best to book as there is a limit on the number in each group. If you have to wait like we did, the little cafe next door is a very pleasant time to spend the 45 mins or so.

“The winner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

Yes I know they say Jewell cave is the best, and yes it has a lot of beautiful formations, but lake cave just pips it at the post! The stunning floating column on the lake is unbelievable. Just be aware, again god awful stairs! But, worth every step!

“Astounding experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

The access to the cave is a bit tricky for people over 1.80m, but once you get past the "headache" and the "splitting headache", you will find yourself in Jules Verne's "A Journey to The Centre Of The Earth".
Our guide Noreli was very instructive and had a good sense of humour. Recommendable, even for creationists…"you don't mess with the truth!"

“Probably the best of the caves”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

Admittedly we did not go see the other caves, so others may disagree with my unscientific opinion, haha! This is a wonderful cave that still has water in it (thanks to their putting a pool liner in - somewhat controversial but with close oversight from local hydrologists). You have to book a tour to see this cave, and it is worth it, as the formations inside are incredibly delicate. There are many steps leading down, which you will have to huff up on the way back out, but you're welcome to take your time. The guide was funny and informative, and we found the tour to be worth it overall.

If you only want to do one cave, this is a great option, as it has the water. Mammoth Cave may be large and fairly devoid of rich detail, and Jewel Cave is reportedly beautiful but dry, so it depends on what sort of experience you are looking for.

Additionally, the cafe there serves a good coffee and the owners are a lovely couple with great senses of humor.
