“Disappointing rooms”

Margarets Beach Resort

Stayed here in winter 2005. With family in 2 separate apartment rooms.

We were disappointed with the standard of these rooms. This is supposed to be high end accomadation. They rooms were poorly maintained ( eg toilet roll holders fallen off, kettle missing etc)and the bathrooms were mouldy , which stunk the whole apartment out. The inlaws which stayed in another apartment also had the same problems with the bathroom.

The inroom information says the rooms are privately owned and each owner is responsible for maintence.

We would not stay here again. Margaret River has plenty of accomadation options, and over the past 6 years we have stayed in the region 1-3 times a year, and this was the most disappointing.

We stayed at Margaret's Beach Resort as it was the only resort we could find that was "on the beach". Well, it isn't really on the beach. You must drive to the beach! The rooms were a bit smelly and damp. They let us change rooms, but the smell was in that room too! It is not a 4 star property. I would rate it a three star. We came down from Bunker Bay and stayed at the Quay West...no comparison there! Margarets Beach Resort is kind of like a university student apartment complex. It is clean enough, but very outdated and old. You could tell many a party had happened in these rooms in the past. It did have a nice playground for the kids. The restaurant was mediocre.
I would not go back to that part of Margaret River, nor would I stay at this hotel again. Western Australia is beautiful and the people are wonderful. But, we enjoyed the top of the cape much more and would stay up there for a base and travel around.

    • Tips/Secrets: — Don't stay there...choose something off the beach because it's not really on the beach anyway!

“Great location, near the vineyards, walk to the beach”

This resort is in a great beachside location 15 minutes drive from Margaret River township and is ideal for long weekend breaks. You can wake up and walk to the beach without having to cross a four lane highway. Trendy decor with raked ceilings and s/s cable balcony surrounds on decking. Two pools were kept clean and appealing.
The vineyards are close by and so are the caves and the art galleries. The resort restaurant is quite good if pricey, but then there's no competition within walking distance.
Highly recommend it for two couples to book a double spa 2 bedroom townhouse apartments which gives each couple their own large ensuite room downstairs both with huge oval spa, living room/kitchen upstairs with laundry inc dryer (for the spa towels.) These 2 bedroom 2 spa apartments have balconies overlooking the ocean and we have been there during some spectacular displays of lightning over the water at sunset.
We could not get one of these special double apartments last time we went and found the more standard accommodation to be in need of an update - a few rust patches showing thru and mismatched crockery.

Stayed in Margarets Beach Resort in January 06 wih two small children, thought the location was nice if you are interested in visiting the wineries of the region & like the beaches. However the hotel had a pretty worn down look- more 3 stars than 4 stars, cleaning services were pretty mediocre (you clean the apartment yourself but it is supposed to be clean when you come in - it was not so clean..). Baby seats were available but only to a limited number & after a few days although we had informed we are coming with two small children in advance. Hotel restaurant was serving really nice food and the staff was friendly, but it was supposed to be open every day - and when we arrived one Tuesday, hungry and tired after a long day and after not managing to find a proper place for lunch, we enjoyed a few gin and tonics and went down for dinner - and were met with a post it note in the door reporting that the restaurant was closed today - no reason known. The reception apologized for "not letting us know" (how do you let someone know about this type of changes if there is only information in the restaurant door? you would need to leave a message for all guests in my opinion)and the staff kindly commented that "you do not look too drunk to drive somewhere for dinner" - as we however ourselves decided that we do not drive after drinks it took about one hour more to get anything to eat from a cafe with about ½ hour walking distance (at this point my 2 year old was about to start eating her baby brothers vegetable pure which she definitively would never touch otherwise...) to summarize, the attitude of this receptionist & the restaurant management needs correction. Nice hotel for anyone not expecting much service and not reliant in any manner on the promised services as these might just stop to exist without prior notice.. left a sour taste

like the title says "the best in the west" I have been to hotels in Mandurah, Kalbarri, Perth, Busselton, Margaret River and also Albany but none better than this one. Nice place in a quiet environment, with a nice large pool, tabble tennis and also a bush walk (if thats for you) also the room was very nice and comfortable with plenty of space, it suits everyone.
