Lunched here with some friends a week ago. It was my first time here, but had heard good reports. Upon arrival, we were taken to our table outside on the verandah, overlooking the lush lawns (where a big concert is held once a year) and bushland. It was a very tranquil, classy setting.
We had some delicious bread with olive oil and olives for starters. One of my friends ordered 12 oysters for entrée and he loved them. For mains, we all had the fish of the day (which happened to be snapper), plus a side of french fries and aioli (country shoestring style, and more than enough to share among 3 people!). The fish was extremely tasty and came with a tomato concassé (I think it also came with mussels and clams but I chose not to have this). The serve size perhaps could have been a little larger for the $44, but it was not tiny either. One of my friends also ordered the cheese platter for dessert, which he savoured til the last bite. Obviously, being a winery, the establishment prides itself on its wines. We chose to share a bottle of the 2003 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Riesling, which, even someone like me who is not a big wine drinker, really enjoyed!
The service was pretty good overall - the staff were friendly and the food came out at the right time. There was nice background music playing (lounge style, e.g. Thievery Corporation) and overall the ambiance was extremely pleasant. There is a large indoor area with floor-to-ceiling windows as well, but on this sunny day, everyone was outside. You can also do a free wine tasting there if you wish.
If you're prepared to put your hand in your pocket, this place is certainly worth stopping at for a meal when in Margaret River.
