My partner & I were both enthusiastic to include the renowned Driftwood on our list of 'must do' wineries in the Margaret River region for the one day we had to indulge; Arriving at the beautiful establishment we both decided and anticipated that lunch at Driftwood would be exceptional.
Once making our way to the restaurant area, the waitress attending us seemed sloppy and disinterested in her professionalism, and scratched her head whilst trying to remember the ingredients in the Daily Special, no mention of the fish of the day and when we asked about recommendations, the waitress said she does not eat or like anything on the menu (understandably being a vegetarian — the menu would not appeal to her but that left us uninformed).
The steak sandwich came out with a disheveled plate of ingredients to 'make your own burger' that soon fell apart when attempting to assemble the undersized bread with the awkward sized steak and sheet of lettuce.
With the 15% public holiday surcharge this worked out to be $37 and left unsatisfied.
Our dishes weren't cleared away for a long time, and this was sealed with the lack of service to complete our eating experience — as we were not offered the dessert menu, coffees and had to eventually ask if we could have the bill to pay for our less than moorish $40 sandwiches.
However the beer battered chips were fantastic, and the incredible view from the balcony was the only real positive attribute.
