“Quirky hotel but room a little noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

Margaret river is lovely and well worth a visit when in WA. This hotel was great value booked online in advance. The hotel itself is a little dis-jointed with the main reception located at a nearby hotel. There is a communal kitchen area which is lovely, full of nautical artifacts and an outside area to congregate in the evening. Unfortunately, the room booked (upstairs above the kitchen) had extremely thin walls and could easily hear noise from the room next door. The room itself had adequate, although a little dated, amenities. I suspect booking one of the larger rooms which aren't in the upstairs annex would have more solid walls and be less noisy. Location is very central and convenient. Next to a lovely Sicilian restaurant. Good base for renting a bike to explore the nearby vineyards. Free wi-fi (but unreliable).

Rooms are a decent size, good shower and bed was comfy enough. Access to communal kitchen facilities, with all crockery and cooking equipment. Free (albeit intermittent) WIFI is a plus. Biggest negative was the quantity of mosquito-like flies in the room (and judging by the stains on the walls, we weren't the first to experience this problem).

I stayed here for three nights as a base to explore Margaret River. I was in a little two-bedroom apartment with a bathroom, kitchenette and verandah. The rooms were dark and a little dusty in places, but quiet and I got a good night's sleep. The location was convenient, just a short walk to the main strip of restaurants and bars. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and there was good-quality free wifi.

Stayed last weekend at the Admiral Stirling Inn. What a quirky but delightful place. It took quite a while to find it and then to find Reception but once that was taken care of, it was quite delightful. It was nice to stay somewhere a bit different. The rooms (6 & 7 on the Bridge) were small but the beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was certainly adequate. There was no remote in either room for the tv and there was not a lot of hanging space but we found it suited our needs perfectly. We did not use the communal kitchen, rather making use of the beautiful bakery just up the street. The views from the rooms were lovely and inspite of heavy rain, we did not get wet at all. Would recommend it.

Room Tip: If stairs are an issue ask for ground floor accommodation

This past weekend, we have finally managed to grab a couple of nights at the Admiral Stirling Inn.
My partner has stayed previously and couldn't say enough about the place. The naval theme is quirky and pleasantly presented, the rooms are well appointed and the courtyard offers a charm all of its own.
It is perfectly located in its own quiet corner whilst at the same time just a stones throw from everything you seek from Margaret River. It is a 2 minute walk to the Bakery for breakfast or to grab the fresh bread for breakfast on the balcony.
In the evening you can grab a sundowner at the local wine bar, or retire to the courtyard or balcony and watch the Possum community going about their nocturnal activities.
This is a gem of a place in a beautiful corner of the world and will certainly be top of our list when the next opportunity arises.

The concept of the Admiral Stirling is great - themed accommodation centred around different ranks of the Navy and it works well with the Admirals quarters having some quite nice fittings. So there is naturally an expectation that these quarters would be of a certain standard - sadly our accommodation was not - it appeared as if it had not been cleaned, the microwave looked like something had exploded in it and the cutlery and plates were dirty. Clearly there is an issue with the cleaners and if they get that right then the place would be much better. No hangars for clothes and overall the cleanliness of the place could have been better. Notwithstanding that the stay was comfortable and we were compensated with a bottle of bubbly. So all in all a litte disappointing but maybe things will improve. I am not saying don't go because it is a good place to say but just be aware of our observations - you pay good money and would expect a certain standard - in this instance it was lacking.
