“A classy but unpretentious experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

I wasn't initially keen to visit Xanadu Wines, but my sister is a local and said it was lots of fun in her list of Yallingup/Margaret River recommendations. Xanadu is one of the Margaret River's most established vineyards and it seems the wines are getting better and better. We enjoyed a great conversation and laughs during our pre-lunch tasting at the cellar door, which led to some excellent choices of wine to complement our meals. The Reserve Chardonnay is exceptional. The barramundi and steak we ordered as main courses were delicious and the waiter was very patient as we prevaricated over the best table location. In summary, a very relaxing experience with excellent wine and food. I'll visit this classy but unpretentious facility again.

“It lived up to all the hype”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

It lived up to all the hype

This Restaurant has won many awards and it lived up to our expectation,
The staff were the most helpful I have come across in Western Australia.
They understand the word services and wine tourism, we had a fantastic long lunch,
Yes the potions were small but I would sooner have quality or quantity.
A good selection of wine by the glass including their top Reserve at $20 a glass.

“Disappointing, which is a pity since we were very much looking forward to visiting Xanadu again after several years”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

What can I say ... Coming back here was on the top of our list of things to do--we're our expectations too high? The mostly foreign wait staff ( back packers from all over the world) were largely indifferent to providing any service from the get go. Upon entering the restaurant, despite most indoor tables empty, we could not find anyone to greet and seat us. Each staff member we approached brushed us off suggesting that someone else was in charge of seating. When we finally found the person in charge he told us to come back in a half hour, which was gone since there was a play ground and we wanted to do some wine tasting. Strangely however, after 30 minutes we were just seated at a table that had been free at the time of our initial arrival and the place seemed to have the same number of clients as before. Once we were seated it became clear that the quality of service was problematic and disorganized. It took 15 minutes for someone to greet is and offer drinks. We ordered immediately and did not get our food for nearly an hour!! Kids were so hungry and by this point in a rather grumpy mood. Despite having asked serval times for coloring and water, in the r d I just got up and helped my self at the wait station. Pathetic really.

Kids food was all previously prepared so they could not accommodate any changes-- like no oregano and ham on the little one's pizza. No substitute allowed on kids desert from ice cream to a simple glass of chocolate milk, even though we preferred tap water to the kid meal included soft drink. Kids did not enjoy the food. For $15 per kid, they could definitely do better.

After nearly one hour of waiting and several questions about where our feed was, it finally arrived. It was pretty good-- I had the crispy skinned grilled barramundi-- but after being so annoyed with the overall service, unfortunately it was hard to fully enjoy. Even getting the check was a long process!

Wine tasting-- we had heard that after ownership changes and a recent wine award that Xanadu winery was worth visiting. We also enjoyed several of their wines produced back in the 1990s and really were curious to see how the wine had evolved. The lady who hosted us for the wine tasting was not at all knowledgeable about wine making which was a big disappointment as we had a few questions. What's worse was her arrogance and curt ness with my benign questions. So we just stuck to tasting. Unfortunately we were also disappointed withe the wine. All the so called improvements made to 'emphasize quality' somehow did not speak to our palate. We are not wine experts ( even though we drink a lot of wine) so maybe we ( the client and consumer) just didn't get it?

“Return visit - not disappointed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

The food was excellent, complimented by great presentation and good service. Having enjoyed a wine tasting before entering the restaurant we were quickly able to decide upon our wine selection to go with our lunch after reading the menu.

Great location and good amentities.

“Not impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Had lunch ... Did mains only and thought the food was unimaginative and overpriced , portions very small for the prices charged. Have been to this restaurant many times before but it seems to have lost direction and flair. Service was very good and the building itself is brilliant.
