The Prime West is the in-house restaurant of the Rydges resort hotel in Kalgoorlie. As we were staying at the Rydges we decided to have dinner at the Prime West. Unfortunately we left it a bit too late to require and the place was booked out. However the friendly staff were able to accommodate us.
I ordered the wagyu steak $52 but the waitress suggested that the wagyu wasn't up to standard and suggested the scotch fillet instead ($38). Sue ordered the eye fillet ($32).
For starters we had the herb bread, which somewhat resembled a big muffin served in a flower pot. It was tasty enough, but rather diddly and messy to eat.
The steaks came out in good time, nicely but not extravagantly presented. My scotch fillet was on a cast iron plate accompanied by a pot of (delicious) peppercorn sauce and very lightly steamed baby carrots. The steak was thick and juicy and very tasty, cooked just slightly more than the medium I ordered.
Sue's eye fillet was served on a black rectangular ceramic plate, with peppercorn sauce and salad. The steak was likewise thick and juicy.
By this time the restaurant had filled up and the two waitresses were run off their feet. It took some time before we got our dessert menu, but the desserts themselves came reasonably quickly after that.
Overall we enjoyed our meals at the Prime West. We were able to get a table notwithstanding the place was booked out. The food was very good and the service excellent, if a little slow towards the end. Both waitresses were friendly and very pleasant, though obviously busy - the restaurant could have done with some additional staff.
