“a place of comfort and relaxation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

We stayed in maldives for 3nights. We arrived early am, took the airport ferry to Male capital. Then a taxi to Villingili terminal where we waited for the 10am ferry to Maafushi (every sunday). When we reached Maafushi after 1 hr and 30 min boat ride, we were welcomed by one of the staff Ismael who throughout our stay has been very accommodating and kind.We came to the hotel, apart from the welcome drinks,we were met by the owner Mr Ibrahim who eventually oriented us which was awesome. The place was very relaxing, quiet, and peaceful. It is located few meters away from the beach, closed compound and it gives you this very laidback, safe feeling. There was jacuzzi and hammocks in the area. We were given a family room, quite spacious and clean. Wifi is available as well but a bit slow. There was an activity board in the reception where you can actually see who among the guests are going for excursions. The provide clean towels, and guests can use their snorkeling equipment for free. The maafushi beach was superb. The local island is conservative, thus they have a small private, covered beach for tourists who wanted to wear bikinis. Breakfast was tasty, loved the coffee and toast in the morning. i just wish they had more choices though. They have an in house restaurant too. We went to fihalhohi ( magnificent snorkelling spot), and rihiveli which boasts its barefoot comfort style having to walk to/from islands which was amazing! Both have stunning beaches. We came to see dolphins while on our speedboat. Just double check the prices of the room, as well as other services like trips/excursions( depends which island) coz they have taxes and service charge and it might be costly especially if you're on a tight budget. Overall, the experience is unforgettable. Ibrahim the owner as well as other staff are very humble, nice and hospitable. My husband enjoyed his chat with Ismael and the speedboat staff ( dunno his name). Would definitely come back!! Good value for money

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon trip between a night in Male and our next stop in the South Ari Atoll. We had a great stay and would definetly come back. Communications before we arrived were very prompt and we received alot of information before we got there. Ibrahim and his staff were very hospitable, members of staff were always willing to help out with advice on excursions, give us information on local history etc. We were met at the jetty on arrival in Maafushi. We were in Room 4 which was a good size and very clean, the room was cleaned every day and towels were also changed. The inn is very good value for money for food and our stay didn't cost us much considering we went on a few day trips and had lunch/ dinner on a number of occasion. There are 10 rooms in total which is what we wanted, a very small and intimate place. You are able to borrow flippers, life jackets for the day for free whereas some resorts/ hotels charge for the use. The wifi range is good but sometimes slightly slow. There is a jacuzzi which we did not use however, it was just too hot for it. I think that maybe there should be a policy of guests indicating whether or not they needed their towels changed as some days they hadn't been used but were still changed (I think however this is indicative of the Maldives and not just Stingray). There is a good system for trying to keep excursion travel costs down by each room indicatiing what day they may want to do a day trip and then the inn finding other people who wanted to go on the same day. I think there should be a little more choice for breakfast. My only moan would be that there was a weird egg (rotten) smell in the bathroom when you ran the water taps however this smell did not last long. Thanks for a great stay and without a doubt we would return.

I warmly recommend the Stingray Beach Inn on Maafushi. It's owner Ibrahim and his staff look after you with care. The food in the inn's own restaurant is the best on the island and the menu is huge. The food is made from the scratch after your order, so it is really fresh, but of course takes a while to be done. You can wait for the food in your room and the staff will inform you when it is served. Keep in mind that this is an island inhabited by local people and the restrictions it brings. When departing the island to Malé, be early on the ferry.

Room Tip: Rooms 1, 2 and 10 are next to the restaurant and some music can be heard through the walls. If you h...

Stingray provides a welcome haven of excellent friendly service where nothing is too much trouble for the excellent staff, and brilliant owner/manager, Ibrahim. In a beautiful setting, the 10 bedrooms/suites are extremely well serviced with welcome air conditioning and mini bar (sans any alcohol, unfortunately!!) Daily snorkelling trips, and optional excursions to nearby resorts, night fishing trips and a private beach(screened from the locals to respect their culture and dress code), provide a good base to experience the locally inhabited islands. Combined with a resort visit, and even better, a resort extension to one's holiday, Stingray is an excellent place to stay and provides well for children, families, solo travellers and romantic couples alike. To relax in the tranquil setting with hammocks, fairy lights, jacuzzi and use of Wii Fii, this makes for a memorable place to return to!

Room Tip: The corner rooms are larger and suitable for a family of 3! Rooms away from the dining area and gard...

We happened to stay at StingRay and all i can say is that it wasnt great, wasnt bad either. Though staff was helpful, we had a major problem with food. Did not like it all. and it took a looong time for it to arrive. also, there were many flies in the restaurant. And to combat it, the server gave us mosquito repellent spray... on the table!!!!

in short, There are better choices available on Maafushi.

Pros: Staff were really nice;
50m to the beach which separated from the locals;
nice clean room;
the inn provides a lot of (paid) activities;
the staff helps on transferring luggage to/from ferry pier

Cons: many flies in the garden and dinning area, and quite disturbing to have any meal there including breakfast; The speedboat fee for (paid) activities are obviously over-priced (4 ppl paid total USD350 for 20mins round trip), believes it is a common source of income of all inns/hotels in Maldives, beware all activities listed price are excluding the surcharge(18%).

This review will be incomplete if i dont give the context about Mafushi Island

When you travel to maldives you have 2 choices to stay at a private resort island which is uninhabited or Live in a island inhabited by local population and get a real taste of maldives. You have certain restrictions in local island about alcohol and walking around in bikinis. But there are earmarked beach areas where in you can wear a bikini and sun bathe.

Its a beautiful and perfect post card country and anywhere you go it just the blue ocean waiting for you.

Mafushi is just the perfect island, to get to mafushi you can take the ferry it take about 90 Mins and $2 Per Person leaves from male at 3 PM every day except friday or take a speed boat if you miss the ferry, i would say both are a great experience in itself.

Sting ray is a cosy place with 10 rooms which are spacious, clean , well maintained and in extremely good condition. The food is amazing and staff is one of the best and courteous i saw in Maldives.

Ibrahim the General Manager is a gem of a person, he truly is the ideal host, he owns up your holiday and ensures that you cherish every minute of your stay.

From recommending the right things to do in terms of day excursions and activities to arranging things getting you delighted. Be it getting us out for night fishing and ensuring that we have a candle light BBQ of the catch was just a awesome experience.

The rooms are well maintained, there is a fresh towels provided every day, beach towels are separate.
Ample snorkeling gear which you can use for snorkeling the reef near the beach.

Wifi is available through the day, but the corner rooms the connectivity needs improvement. I could use skype in the restaurant with little hassle.

Things you should not Miss

You can make a trip to the Island resorts which is highly recommended

One day you can travel in the ferry to male and experience the submarine

Dolphin sighting

Scuba Diving must do in maldive as its one of the best diving places in the world, even if you are not a swimmer

Snorkeling is awesome

Room Tip: The corner rooms has a internet connectivity issues, if that's a show stopper you can specify at...
