“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Its definitely a great place to stay . Such was a warm hospitality provided by mr. Ibrahim , we felt like we were at home , we felt that the days flew faster and wished we had some more time to spend.
Do Try night fishing , its really very amazing .
And if you decide to dive and if you are first timer , there is no better school than maldives passion diving school . The instructor Adham is really amazing teacher and very friendly person.
and if you are on a budget trip try taking ferry and plan your arrival time accordingly .
Food is good , and i would recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit maafushi island.
Cheers !! takecare

Great location and staff. Within a courtyard and had a good community feel. The manager and his staff are attentive and try very hard to make your stay comfortable. Very close to a nice beach. We enjoyed our 4 days here and would gladly return. Very good veg selection for dinner. Thanks for a great stay.

How to reach: After my booking (I did mine thru Agoda), I read the other reviews and decided to write to Ibrahim. As anticipated, he was extremely prompt. Within an hour he had sent me the speedboat transfer rates (180$). I decided for the ferry. There is a morning one for Mafushi (around 10 AM I believe ) but my flight from India came in at 11 AM and therefore I had to opt for the 3 pm one).

Forex- There is a Forex counter I noticed at the airport. Other options, if you are taking the ferry - the ferries accept $ and the ticket counter at villingi changes $ too. The restaurants / cafe around the villingi terminal were also changing $.

Ferry Route - Airport ferry terminal - Male (1.5 $/ person, 10 minutes travel time) ; then to villingi ferry terminal for ferry to Mafushi ( taxi 40 rufiya or 3$); tickets for Mafushi @ 20 rufiya / person ; time to reach Mafushi - about 1.5 - 2 hours
Remember -There are no ferries on Friday

Resort - This resort is probably better than you would imagine from the prices. It's a new resort, built only last year. The island is a local fishing village (1.5 km by 200 meters I believe ). I guess there are just 10 rooms all around a sandy courtyard matted with pebbles and shrubs. Very beautiful. Ibrahim receives you at the terminal and you walk thru a couple of 100 meters to the hotel while your luggage is transported. There is an induction done at the hotel reception as you sip a welcome drink (what's included and what's not, facilities and activity options available, location rules - no Alcohol / bikini ). The resort provides free snorkeling, life vests etc if you want to venture around the local reef. It has an inhouse cafeteria. Lots of mosquitoes in the evening, so u better carry repellents.

Rooms - Very clean and smart rooms. Small but organized.
What you get : 2 complimentary bottles of water, tea maker, bath towels as well as beach towels, wardrobe with lock, cable tv (note for guys from India - the dth is videocon and u get to see your favorite binding/regional soaps, there are a good collection of English channels as well ), plugs with international adapter, washed clothing drying space (outside on a wooden chair ), comfortable beds (medium hard), free wifi.

Activities - There are a range of activities you may take up. I would recommend that you download the brochure from their website. There are a number of resort options where you are dropped around 10am and picked up around 5 pm. You may spend the day, taking up the resort activities or plain snorkeling / sipping wine / savoring gastronomic delights. For newbies you may take up a snorkeling tution. It is not cost prohibitive (just 20 $ per person, min. 2 persons). It's an experience of a lifetime. Musa, a resort employee also is the designated tutor and he is very patient and has great local knowledge of fish and reefs.
You may also like to take in the local ambience by roaming about the village (1500 population ). There are souvenir shops (the largest one owned by stingray guys). There are a couple of local beaches (a trifle rocky so beware of treading on sharp coral or rock edges)
While we were there, Ibrahim arranged for a night of maldivian music and dance which all resort occupants joined in attention end. You are charged 5 $ / person for this which us worth it.
There are books to borrow and read as well as a table football (the ones which joey and chandler play in Friends )
You may also like to visit the local cafe at the island - Rehendi (just around the corner )

The resort staff is very caring and helpful and thus you keep on getting pleasantly surprised

Room Tip: All rooms are of equal stature as they are at a perimeter of an oval courtyard

We used to always shun away the thought of going to Maldives considering it being labelled as an expensive luxury destination. However our experience at Stingray made us realize that a great budget holiday is possible in Maldives. We got a good B&B deal at Stingray since Sep-Oct is not a peak season. I would suggest anyone to directly contact Stingray for best rates as the rates on Agoda and other travel websites are inflated.

Property – Its a small property with total 10 rooms located at a local island, Maafushi. The Maafushi beach is at a 2 mins walk from the hotel. The Maafushi beach is small but with clean turquoise waters like rest of Maldives. Stingray staff can arrange sun beds for you at the beach on request. The hotel property is 4-5 mins walk from the jetty arrival point. Maafushi island does not have good snorkeling points. But that's not a major worry as the hotel arranges snorkeling trips for the guests.

Getting to Stingray – We took a local ferry from Male Villingili Ferry terminal. The ferry ride is for 1.5 hours and costs US$2 per person for one way. The ferry guys accept local currency as well as US$. Alternatively, you can reach Maafushi by requesting Stingray for a speedboat transfer. It takes 45 mins in speedboat and costs US$160 for one way transfer. Please note, US$160 is for the entire boat and not per person or per couple charges. If there are more people, it may cost less per person. We were just two of us so we took the local ferry. The local ferry from Male to Maafushi leaves at 3 pm every day and ferry from Maafushi to Male is at 7-30 am everyday. The local ferry does not run on Fridays. So depending upon the group size and your flight timing, you can choose either the local ferry or the speedboat transfer.

Rooms – Our room was big, clean and well furnished with all the necessary facilities such as a decent size wardrobe, kettle, hair dryer, mirror, dressing table, converter sockets and 24*7 hot water availability. The hotel is fairly new and hence all the furnishing is new and shiny. Bathroom was decent though wish the shower cubicle was bigger. There is small meshed window near the bathroom’s ceiling. Although nothing can be seen from outside, we requested the hotel staff to cover it as we were uncomfortable. The staff obliged and covered it. Wish the hotel used blinders instead of mesh.

Staff – Excellent, Outstanding and Mind-blowing. No adjective can describe the amazing service and politeness of the staff. They really go out of the way to please the guest and fulfill all their requirements. They also sat with us every evening to meticulously plan our next day’s activities and excursions. The owner-Ali and the manager- Ibrahim give personalized attention to each and every guest. We wanted an underwater camera to be used during diving. Although the cameras were out of stock, Ibrahim arranged a camera on hire on a short notice from one of his friends. Ibrahim also spent time explaining us the entire geography of Maldives and the political scenario in the country. Ibrahim was sweet enough to give his bike to us to see the Maafushi Island. There is a souvenir shop managed by the hotel in the Maafushi market area which I highly recommend everyone to visit.

Excursions and activities – Request the hotel to send you the PDF file of all the activities you can do at Stingray before you reach Maldives. This will help you to plan all your activities beforehand. Stingray provides number of activities ranging from water sports to unhabitated island excursions at an affordable rate. Similar activities at other island resort may cost you twice or thrice the amount. We did scuba diving, sand bank trip, snorkeling, visit to Picnic Island (Maadhoo Finolhu), and visit to an island resort (Anantara Dhigu). On the way to Picnic Island, we also got a chance to see Dolphins and Manta rays. Kindly note, snorkeling equipment is available for free for hotel guests. Ibrahim also helped us get scuba diving certificates from the diving company. Do get yours if you are doing it for the first time. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Picnic Island and the hotel staff prepared lunch for us at the island. They also arrange barbecue on request. They also arranged a candle light dinner at Maafushi beach on one of the evenings for us.

Food – We are vegetarians and the kitchen staff went at great lengths to provide us with the best possible vegetarian food. Vegetarian and Indian food is an issue in most of Maldives unless you are staying at a resort managed by Indian companies. The Stingray staff did their best. Although the options were limited, we found the food to be of good quality. The non-vegetarians visiting Stingray should not worry about food as they will have lot of options to choose from.

B&B versus Resort Islands – Stingray is a great B&B hotel with excellent service standards. However it is not an answer if you are looking for a luxurious Maldives experience with Spa, villas and your own private beach. Stingray is an excellent option for budget and adventurous travelers who are looking for a good place to sleep and spend their holiday doing water activities and excursions.

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Maldives is how expensive the trip is going to be..but Stingray at Maffushi island is a Perception changer...Without compromising on Quality, one gets best of the best service..From their modern Luxurious rooms to their tasty food, everything is picture perfect...Once thing noteworthy is the Hotel Staff - Having traveled to many places...I have never experienced the hospitality that I experienced at Stingray... right from the Owner Ibrahim and Ali, to the Service staff - Younus to their Chef - Hasan, they treat you like home..They help you plan all excursions and suggest you best of the things...
We were 3 couples with 3 kids and we were treated royally, the place is so secure that we had absolutely no worries for kids..
Some of the experiences which I will never forget is the quick arrangement done by Ibrahim and team for Candle light dinner on beach and other being arranging a underwater camera for Scuba Diving...These are small things you will never get in best of the resorts, but Stingray made this possible and I am delighted for same.
I definitely recommend this to one and all...another advantage is that hotel is located on local island and there are numerous super markets you can buy daily stuff from (Unlikely in other resorts)
When in future I plan a Maldives trip again, I will not have to think again on where to go....Its definitely Stringray beach Inn for my family, friends and me..
Ibrahim - Once again brilliant hospitality....Thank you so much..for making this vacation we will cherish for life time....

Room Tip: There are 2 types of rooms, family and normal...either can be selected depending on number of people...

We were 3 couples with 3 kids 2.5 years each.. Stayed here for 6 nights.. Wish we had many more..

The people are extremely friendly always smiling and ready to help. I think this is much cause of the management by Ibrahim and Ali who thenselves went oht of their way to fullfill all our and our kids wishes..

We did all activites like scuba (padi diving) snorkelling canoeing night fishing under their guidance and professionals.. Most of the times Ali himself drove us in their speed boat. This made us feel even more special than i could have imagined staying in a fancy bunglow

Best was when we asked for candlelight dinner on the beach they said they never did it but it was simply Perfect..

Bring vegeterians the chef used to sit and discuss the menu and perfected to our taste..

I can surely go on forever but in the end I AM SURELY COMING BACK..

THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR MALDIVIAN DREAM COME TRUE..
