“Outdated, dark and drab”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Picked the City Central motel as they had a room able to accommodate 6 people and the price was reasonable. The lady was very pleasant through the day as we thought we would be late checking in due to taking longer on the Great Ocean Road. We were given a room in another motel a few klms away from the main City Central apartments. The room was dark and drab and in many ways unclean. Although it is in what seems like a quiet neighbourhood there was a lot of noise throughout the night from other guests.

We booked for a 1 bedroom unit but was given a townhouse across the road. This had 2 bedrooms, a laundry, bathroom, separate toilet, kitchen and lounge/dining room. All was neat, clean and comfortable. Included was breakfast and a dinner voucher each at a nearby hotel - Maceys which was a bistro meal which you could upgrade if you wanted. Yes we would return. Staff at reception was very friendly and helpful and even gave us use of the free wifi on the proper site.

On arrival they didn't have our booking in the system. The manager(ess) was curt and unfriendly, although she did "upgrade" us to what she called their Executive Townhouse. In reality, this is a standard residential unit which was built in the 1970s and hasn't been upgraded since. The mismatched furniture and framed prints give it that "visiting your Grandma" feeling. There is no phone to contact reception, the curtains and blinds don't work and every electrical appliance was unplugged when we arrived. We had to go around and plug everything in. My partner booked a two night special including chocolates on arrival (turned out to be a family block of Cadbury) and br

The City Central Motel was reasonably priced so opted for a night here. Was a little worried when we finally arrived after dark as it looked quite dingy from the outside, however once we opened the door it was spotlessly clean, had a full kitchen, comfy bed, good shower, TV and free Wi-Fi. The staff were very helpful advising us where we could go to eat and what to see.

Room Tip: All seemed to be equally quiet.

We were put into the 2 bed spa apartments on Jackman St. These are perfectly located only a black from Leibig St. They have everything you'll need for a self catered stay including washer dryer etc. If you can ignore that the decor comes from a time before you remember, then you'll find these apartments suitable. Not for a luxurious weekend away but if you consider something flash could cost you three times as much and are after something cheap and cheerful that is conveniently located these will certainly do the job.

Made a late booking for 4 adults for one night. We were in the "Executive" 2 bedroom apartment located across the road from the actual motel, in King St. Thought we were in a standard room, but looking at the pictures on the website, we were in the executive apartment, as the pictures match the room we were in.

Was suprised how clean and tidy the apartment was. Being a unit, there was also all cooking facilities - from cutlery, to crokery to saucepans, to glasswear. There was also room for 4 adults to move around in and not be all cramped. We didn't use the cooking facilities, as we flew in and out, but there was even an oven and hotplates!

Not sure if it would be considered "Executive" due to the dated furniture. But what I was most impressed was the price. Looked for deals online, and booking direct was the same price. But the price was for up to 5 adults, not 2 adults + $20 per extra adult, or +$30 per extra adult, like all of the other places we were looking at.

Unsure of wether I would stay again - on the upside price, cleanliness and having a 2 bedroom apartment that was totally seperate to living area was great, but (sounding like a bit of a snob), the cane lounge suit was not really suitable to chill out on and hang out to watch TV.

If you are looking for somewhere budget, and with room to move, the 2 bed apartment is the way to go. And walking distance to the supermarket!

Room Tip: If you are staying in the apartment across the road, ensure to get the details, as no signage that t...

I arrived in the evening after the sun had set. Didn't have much difficulty locating the motel with a GPS. The driveway and entrance to the reception were dimly lit, however, once we got into the room, our perception of the motel improved drastically.

For the price I paid, I expected the usual amenities of a typical motel. City Central motel surprised me with a rather spacious room – the bed was comfortable, the wifi internet was fast (and complimentary), and best of all, the bathroom came with rain shower!

Overall, it was a very comfortable stay in this motel. Great way to wind down after a fantastic drive through the Great Ocean Road.
