Owner description: Located at the heart of the spectacular Great Ocean Road region, only one west of the popular Twelve Apostles and just ten minutes from the coastal tourism hub of Warrnambool, you will discover the naturally diverse offering of the exquisite Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve. Declared Victoria’s first National Park in 1892, Tower Hill is the ideal place for visitors to experience the Australian bush, enjoy magnificent scenery and landscapes while getting up close & personal with some of Australia’s most iconic native birds and animals including emus, koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, black swans, wedge-tail eagles, magpie geese and seasonal reptiles. The Reserve sits inside a dormant volcano and its plethora of wildlife provides visitors with the rare opportunity to witness animals at close range in their natural habitat. This, combined with guided tours to learn about wildlife, environmental conservation and sustainability and local history provide a truly unique eco-tourism experience. A site of ecological and geological significance and a showcase for indigenous history, Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve is open the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with guided tours available everyday on demand. Within its spectacular 11km crater rim, the volcanic cones rise from a lake bed in a formation known as a nested maar, which occurred as a result of the volcanic dome collapsing on itself due to weight. A close proximity to The Twelve Apostles, The Grampians and Port Campbell National Parks as well as a number of other factors, makes Tower Hill a must see for tourists seeking nature based & cultural interpretation experiences, or groups with an interest in environmental studies:• Landscape & Scenic values recognised by the local and wider community listed by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and the Register of National Estate. • Geological values rated as nationally significant (nested maar).• Habitat values including remnants and wetlands. • Cultural and social values related to the major re-vegetation program involving thousands of volunteers (the first of its kind in Victoria).• Informal recreation, education, research and wildlife viewing opportunities for domestic & international visitors.• Aboriginal heritage values including several significant sites, as well as Post European contact heritage values.

“Spectacular!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

We visit here at least every six months, the whole place is magical! Read up on the history, the destruction and the reconstruction. Australia's first National Park, a gorgeous visitor information center by Robin Boyd - a true national treasure.

“Tower Hill Review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Unique experience for the traveller - esp Overseas Needs some more activation and the iconic Centre needs to acknowledged as a Robin (?) Boyd design, or else this historic contribution will be lost

“Tower Hill A Geological Jem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

We visited Tower Hill Conservation Park early September, the weather was very kind to us which made this visit a real treat. My husband and I are in our mid 60s but we managed all of the fabulous walks ...around the lakes accompanied by a chorus of frogs!! up to the volcano which was just spectacular.... just to see the commanding views from the top of the park is well worth the walk. We spent 5 hours in this lovely park just exploring all of the fabulous sights. We had a lovely picnic lunch in the picnic grounds complete with emus of course!! which were very well mannered if you didn't want them around then the word NO!! is enough to discourage them.
I would definately recommend this visit as a worth while trip.

“Koala”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

WOW - we thought we would be happy to see a kangaroo, in fact we saw many, plus emus, plus a cuddly koala in a tree not too far from the roadway. We didnt go into the tourist centre we just drove around.

“Great place to stop on way to Warrnambool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

Stopped on here on the way to Warrnambool and it was so lovely, I especially loved seeing koalas (though I'm not so keen on Emus!). Though definitely a lovely place to stop for a break and walk around.
