“Great Overall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

I've stayed here a few times and will be returning again next year. The location is great; beach a few minutes walk, shops and cafes all around, easy access to public transport. Staff are friendly, accommodating and professional. Deluxe room is nice, clean, has comfy king bed, mini fridge, kettle, nice bath amenities, large shower, spacious closet, desk. I feel at home here, have had stays of two weeks, has just what I need.

Some nearby food spots I liked are Rococo, I Carusi II, 7 Apples Gelato, Claypots, Dog's Bar, Leroy Espresso, Bala's, Chinta Ria...

Take the tram or bus to Bridge Road, Chapel St, the city, Chadstone, or south to Brighton and beyond, so many places to see. Or stay around St Kilda, walk everywhere, see Sunday market on the Esplanade, stop at the many cake shops, relax by the beach and watch the sun set with a cocktail!

Dear HeathG1

So great to have you back at the Cosmo and so nice to hear you feel like home when you are staying with us!

Your neat description of the hotel and what we have to offer is just perfect and I am certain your recommendations for Lunch and Dinner will be well receieved by our future guests. I’d also like to add that at our reception desk we have several discount offers for restaurants within the Acland Street Hub!

I look forward to seeing you again next year!

Warm regards

Surprisingly great! The staff were very helpful, professional and always friendly. The Location of the hotel is very centralized, near the beach, theme park, shopping and numerous eateries. The room was spacious, clean and well kept. The view however was okay as there are not many sites to be seen from the balcony. There is a restaurant associated with the hotel "La Kitchen," we did not eat there. There is Free Wifi avail, also complementary movies to borrow in the lobby as well as a computer free for usage with internet access. We stayed 3 nights while in Melbourne and enjoyed our stay with the Cosmopolitan hotel.

Dear Long N

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Cosmo and for your kind words about the hotel and staff. We are very pleased that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us, and love to see the details that appealed to you most, that in turn wished to share!

For the benefit of our other readers, ‘La Kitchen’ has undergone a recent facelift and as a result I am happy to announce our rebranded ‘Chalk Café & Bar’. Chalk is beautifully presented with fresh new monochromatic tones making for a comfortable atmosphere for dining in the morning. Our Chef Tyron has carefully selected the right ingredients to encompass our new, succulent Boutique Breakfast. Eggs cooked three ways during the week and a delicious A la carte menu to choose from on weekends, Chalk it up: breakfast from 7am weekdays, 8am weekends!

We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

Warm regards

I stayed here with my husband and son on our first (and only) trip to Melbourne. I booked online and had no idea what to expect, but we were very pleasantly surprised by our large, clean, comfortable room. It's in a great location, as there are plenty of eateries, shops and other attractions (such as Luna Park) within easy walking distance. Tram stops were just a couple of mins walk also and it was an enjoyable trip into Melbourne's CBD. Staff are friendly and we scored a great bargain at under $100 per night for 8 nights stay :)

Dear MBelf,

Thank you for staying with us and for your review!

It is nice to hear that after reserving a room online that you were pleasantly surprised with our services. Transparency is important to us and we aim to be as honest in our offering online as we are with our recommendations, in person.

It’s great to see you took advantage of our stay and save promotion in March. We often run different specials throughout the year, which our reservation staff will gladly talk you through, and answer any questions you may have about the hotel and the area.

We hope to see you back here, in the warmer months!

Best regards

The Pros:
Free parking (secure behind a big heavy gate)
Cleanliness
Amazing breakfast spread (including cooked eggs!) Much better than typical continental.
Friendly staff (note Ben, Mirror)
Location (2 min walk to Acland St)
Can open windows (rare these days and I love fresh air)

The cons:
Could hear muffled noise from backpackers over the road (I think the smoking space is outside their front door)
Cigarette smell in room on first night (opened window, fine by day 2. meant to be non smoking, some people are inconsiderate!)
No room service or mini bar (I do love a midnight snack!)

Suggestions for improvement
Loved individual yoghurt but was mainly greek yoghurt. Would like a sweeter option too
A mini bar in the room for a snack or wine
Some clarity on coffee options for breakfast. First day was busy and thought I could only have coffee from self serve machine. On Day 2 I saw someone with a latte and enquired. Turns out real coffee is available for purchase. This is vital information for me as I need a good coffee to start my day!
With no gym at hotel, it would be nice to have a cheap option nearby. Gym mentioned was a bit of a walk and expensive.

I'll be back again in summer!

Dear Pepper G,

Thank you for your review and for noting Ben and Meera, as they are two fantastic people who I work with at the hotel and it’s a delight to have them named in this forum for their helpful service!

Some exciting things to look forward to on your next visit:

Our minibar offering is in the process of a revamp with our offering increasing and improved accessibility to items when our guests prefer it. We personally deliver our minibar requests to our guest rooms, however the new introduction of Quench @ Cosmo will allow our guests to have their minibar pre-stocked with only their most favourite’s selection, leaving ample room for their other items, they wish to store in the fridge.

Our onsite café has recently undergone a transformation into our chic” Chalk Café and Bar”, Thank you for your timely acknowledgment about the standard of our Boutique Breakfast. A lot of work has gone into this by our Chef Tyron and I am certain he will appreciate your suggestions. The Boutique breakfast is offered 7 days a week with an extensive spread including eggs cooked just the way you like and on the weekend the option to choose a delicacy from our a la carte menu!

I am sorry to hear of the odour you experienced within your room on your first night. I can assure you this is a letdown in our standards and has been addressed with our housekeeping team immediately. As a result an improved refocus will be applied in our daily inspections moving forward. Regarding the noise from the venue across the road, firstly my apologies for the disturbance, secondly we are dedicated to ensuring our guests have a relaxing stay and this issue whilst we could not rectify it at the time, it has since been escalated with the local council.

Thanks again for your carefully considered review and suggestions. At the Cosmopolitan Hotel we are committed to improving our standards and your feedback is an important part of this process.

See you in summer!

Best regards

A very good, clean and modern hotel very close to shops, great restaurants and cafes (2-3min walking distance). Also very handy (again 2-3min walk) to Melbourne tram service (20 min to CBD). Great breakfast buffet and price ($15). Rooms are quiet (double glazing on windows) which is an added bonus given the trams are very close by.

Room Tip: They have a great variety of room styles, so check rates and size of room before booking

We stayed at the Cosmopolitan and we were quite impressed, it was virtually in the hub of St Kilda but was quite, had secure parking (an essential for us) and we didn't realize we were having a lovely continental breakie in their delightful cafe. We were wanting a spot where we could park and walk everywhere. This is a lovely clean hotel, with friendly helpful staff, a spacious room with a large shower. We also thought it was good value for money. We have no hesitation in recommending Cosmopolitan 8.

Dear asiawonders

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback from your recent stay with us. I am happy to see the Cosmo is just what you are looking for in a hotel! For many guests such as yourself, car parking is essential and we are delighted to offer it complimentary! Thank you for your comments on our Boutique Breakfast offered in our newly renovated and renamed café on site, ‘Chalk Café and Bar’. Our chef Tyron has worked very hard over the past few months renewing our offering and revamping the café to provide a vibrant atmosphere for guests to enjoy. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

We greatly look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Warm regards

We had a great stay at The Cosmopolitan Hotel. We booked as a "walk in" since our original hotel was not suitable for us. The entire staff is really friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 321 - a deluxe room, the room was very quiet, comfortable bed-linens, nice large shower, and a good size desk for office work (we were on a business trip).
We enjoyed every morning watching the hot air balloons travel thru the sky from our bedroom window (@ 5:45am). We had breakfast every morning for $10.00/psn which is a nice display of meats, cheeses, fresh pastries, cereal and eggs, etc. The waitstaff in the restaurant are really friendly (Darren and Tyron), super nice guys to talk to and full of information about St. Kilda and Australia. Daily room service was great as well as the 24hr laundry service provided. Our room was quiet and comfortable.
The Cosmopolitan hotel could not be in a better location, a 5 minute walk to Luna Park and a 3 minute walk to the trams. Also, the main street for shopping and dining is right around the corner. The St. Kilda Sea Baths and Republica bar/restaurant are a short walk as well. You can walk out on the pier at St. Kilda and see all the penguins come in at night and also rent bikes at Kite Republic (the local kiteboarding shop/school).
After seeing some of the other hotels in the area, I would only recommend The Cosmopolitan Hotel (especially for the price). The also have free gated parking (if you have a car). But you do not need one if staying at the Cosmopolitan.
The bus stop is right across from the hotel which takes you right to the airport for only $18.00.
If we have the chance to return to St. Kilda we look forward to staying with The Cosmopolitan Hotel again!!!

Room Tip: We liked 321 in the main building
