We arrived early so the rooms were not ready, the staff were helpful and allowed us to store our belongings while we enjoyed the area. When we returned to check in we had to pay a $20 deposit for the key and we were given security codes to access the doors after reception hours. There was a communal microwave and water cooler (although it was empty). In our room we had table/chairs/TV/alarm clock/fridge/kettle/iron/ironing board/towels and they also provided complimentary shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/shaving cream/hand soap/body lotion which all smelled beautiful. The bed was clean and comfortable and the room wad cheap at under $80 we had a perfect night in St Kilda. The location of the motel is perfect at a short walk from the beach and a number of gourmet and unique restaurants and bars on Fitzroy Street. The only downside was the hot water seemed to run out mid shower, but it was hot so we didn't mind.

I stayed here for 2 nights and found it quite good for the price, the complimentary taxi never showed so the woman from check in drove myself and another person to the apartments (2 different blocks)

the room was clean and mostly modern (the bathroom was old)

location on Carlisle st was good, tram and bus at the door and a short walk to Acland St and the beach. my only issue was on checkout, I tried to call reception and was unable to get through, not sure if the phone wasnt working or if no one was answering, I ended up chasing down housekeeping who were cleaning 2 units down and told her I was checking out.

Room Tip: If in Carlisle St, get at the back of the block, the Trams are quite noisy and run pretty late.

We are two 60 year old women friends who were in Melbourne seeking good value, convenient Australia Day long weekend 2013 accommodation, having spent "too much" on flights, the Australian Open tennis and a few really exxy meals in St Kilda and Chinatown etc.( actually, "two old growlers" - a new description for us!-according to one of the more colourful comments directed to us outside a nearby delicious yiros joint! -A sense of humour may be required for a happy time in this neighbourhood!?) We found that our stay at the EasyStay Carlisle St address for 3 nights met all our needs: really good value for money -convenient, clean, comfortable, roomy, tastefully and recently neutrally if minimally decorated..... quite a success generally. And perfectly acceptable for a bit of in-room down-time with a decent telly and a cuppa! (i.e. not just a box to escape as soon as possible). It was a very easy walk to Acland and Barkly street, St Kilda Rd and the Esplanade. We really felt like part of the community in a way you don't in more up-market places. Minor problems: waited for ages for a no-show by the promised free taxi to accommodation after check-in on a busy Friday evening but then we just jumped on a tram and were there from the Fitzroy St reception in 5 minutes. Or we could have walked in under 10 if we had lighter bags. The other( bigger for ancients) problem we had was, first of all remembering and then being able to read the numbers easily on the street gate security key pad when we came home late at night, withoutv having had even one drink! We recommend a brighter light! (But we did still feel quite safe.) A passing local seeing us trying ineptly to put in the numbers said " What are two nice ladies like you doing staying in this dump?" and we replied "No, it's really lovely!" And we meant it-after many trips all over the world, and understanding that you can't expect a champagne experience on a beer budget, it is NOT a dump. For example, a shower ( even if rather tight!) is Ok...a bath is not a necessity. Street noise was not a problem-actually it was quite soothing hearing the trams passing, knowing we had easy access on a regular basis to the city from right outside our gate. (In San Francisco they advertise rooms as being within hearing of the much noisier cable cars!). Beds, doonas and pillows were clean and good, air-con effective, windows openable( not always the case in more expensive hotels), parking available at modest cost if needed, toiletries available, plenty of towels, decor restful and kitchen equipment fine, staff helpful(if busy) and friendly. You don't need your bedding replaced daily at home, so why when staying away? Other guests were friendly and quiet enough. St Kilda itself is "interesting" and could be a little scary in parts for some at night, but it's a great place to stay with so much happening- e.g.the sea baths, the market on Sunday, great eating, interesting people, the beach, amazing cake shops, and the Espy etc. If you are looking for a bland experience maybe you should avoid the locale altogether, but for a cheap, comfy, interesting stay, we cannot recommend this place ( at least the property we stayed in) highly enough! Three cheers for meeting a need in the market for those who value experiences and value but don't have deep pockets!

We stayed for 1 night which I think was plenty, I wouldn't recommend it for longer stays. The rooms were pretty basic but comfortable enough. The location to St Kilda beach and Luna Park was what attracted us, but the area itself where the motel is located is pretty rough, as someone else said in their review you were surrounded by Junkies, usually always hanging around outside the front of the motel which made it a bit of a concern. We made sure our room was as secure as possible when going out. The motel does not have lifts which made it difficult lugging suitcases up. So overall, not a bad place, ok for a short stay.

Dear Lara,

Thank you for staying with us at Easystay and also for the feedback.

We provide clean comfortable, affordable and well located accommodation in St Kilda.
We appreciate that you had that experience with us.

We understand that St Kilda can be a bright and colorful place and sometimes there are undesirable people in the area. Easystay has great security and have security in the evening times to ensure that all of our properties are secure and safe for our guests.

Due to the nature of our buildings we do not have elevators, but we are able to offer you accommodation on ground floors for easier access.

If you were to stay with us again may I suggest you try our studio apartments. They are located around the heart of St Kilda and are as easy and convenient. These would make for longer stays and be of more comfort as they have full kitchenettes and are more modern.

We warmly welcome you back to Easystay and thank you for the time taken to write a review.

Kind regards,

Stayed in Family Room on a Thursday night
The Bad:
If you don't wash your dishes you have to pay $25, but they give you nothing to wash the dishes with!
Deposit required for key even with credit card, took a week to get it back
No lifts and narrow balconies
Parking is complicated and costs $10
They kept my licence and when I rang about it denied it and didn't even bother looking for it
Water pressure is bad and good luck finding the right temperature
Loud street noise - but to be expected given it's the main street of St Kilda
The Good:
Excellent location
Right on main strip of eateries and bars
Clean and roomy accommodations
Very comfortable beds

Room Tip: Not good for families or older people. Great for a girls weekend or boys trip.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay.

We are happy that you found the accommodation clean, comfortable and well located.
We do pride ourselves on these aspects.

We ask guests to make sure that they do their dishes to reduce the costs on housekeeping which in turn reflects in the rates that you pay. For those guest that do not feel to clean their dishes we ask for an additional charge to combat the extra time spent on cleaning the room.

We do take a key deposit of $20 on a full working credit card instead of pre-authorising your card. This is to ensure that all charges are paid in full on departure and is used as security.
majority of hotels will pre-authorise your card and this may take weeks to return to your card.

Due to the nature of our building we do not have lift access. However if you would like to request a room that is on a lower floor or on a ground floor we are able to place this as a request for you.

In relation to car parking. We do have limited car spaces at each property at a rate of $10 per day. We find that we are competitive in our rates and offer secure car parking also.

I apologize for the confusion and misplacement of your license, I have since discussed this with reception and explained the importance of remembering to give the guest back their belongings whilst doing their check in.

I have discussed with maintenance the water pressure for the shower and he has since tested and repaired the issue you were faced with.

We do sympathize with the noise in the area, but we do have apartments available that have limited noise are in quieter area of St Kilda. We are happy to accommodate you if the request is made, and we are also happy to move you if you notify us throughout your stay.

I hope that i have clarified all of your concerns in regards to your stay.

We really appreciate the time you have given to let us know about any issues you faced.

We do warmly welcome you back to stay with us again.

Kind regards,

The door wouldn't shut, the cooking smells pervaded the air & stank. Some of the lights didn't work & the bed was uncomfortable. What an overpriced dump. The place just looked run down as if the owners were there just to rip you off. $25 a night is all they should be charging for this hovel. The door not closing properly meant I had to sleep with one eye open for fear of someone breaking in & attacking me.
